Haskins Garden Centre
Advantages: Nice staff, nice food and lovely items
Many of my reviews recently have been about places I visited whilst in Bournemouth. This is mainly because I did so much shopping down there and most of the shops are ones I've never visited as we don't have them up in Inverness.
When in Bournemouth I needed to go to Hobbycraft so we decided that we'd go to Haskins for lunch. Before arriving I was a bit unsure about what we'd be able to eat at a garden centre.
Once arriving at Haskins I noticed the car park was really big for the garden centre. We pulled up and went inside. As we walked in I noticed that it had loads of different things here as well as garden items.
We went straight over to what I would class as a food court. There was loads of different stalls with things ranging from sandwiches to carveries. There was also cakes and a Costa coffee.
We decided on a light(ish) lunch and I had a cheese and onion bloomer, with this I decided to have a slice of lemon meringue pie and a cup of hot chocolate.
For the three of us with similar choices it cost £36.75. I found this extremely over-priced and was glad I didn't go for a bigger meal as I wouldn't of liked to see the price.
We went to sit down and sat over by the windows. They have a small kids play area outside and also seating outside but it was raining so we stayed in.
The seating area is very big and looks really clean. The seats are comfy to sit in and it's a nice wide open space so you don't want to feel too enclosed. The only problem was the automatic doors opening and closing non stop. This wasn't due to customers but because they had a large artificial plant next to it which triggered it off all the time.
The food itself was lovely and the dessert tasted homemade. It was a really good lunch which we all extremely enjoyed. Just unfotunately for the price I didn't think it was worth it.
Once we had our lunch we went round for a look in the shop. We didn't go to see the plants because of the rain. We did have a look at their dvds and kitchen items. Again the prices were quite expensive compared to other shops.
They had lovely items for the kitchen that would look fantastic in a little country cottage or a farmhouse. It did have a feeling of being quite old fashioned with a lot of the homeware items.
On our way out of the store we stopped at the bird houses. For a simple bird house on stand it was about £65. I have never bought one before but for this price I think i'll stick to letting them have there nest in the trees!
The shop was very busy and there seemed to be a lot of people coming just for the restaurant as the shop itself didn't havethat many people around.
The staff were all friendly and smiling. This was really nice to go somewhere and feel comfortable and happy with the service.
Overall it was a nice experience but I wouldn't go back.
Summary: Nice experience as a one off
