Advantages: Very easy to get a quote and to apply

Disadvantages: Not any I can think of!

I previously had my Contents Insurance with Barclays and I was with them for 2 years. My Insurance with Barclays went up by around 2 pound each year. So I finally decided to go online and search for a better quote I went onto yahoo and searched for contents insurance. Various companies appeared and I first tried AA, immediately realising I was being ripped off by Barclays! My own fault really for taking the easy way out and sticking with the same insurers.

I decided against the AA and then got quotes from More Than Insurance, Post Office and then lastly Admiral.

The best quote turned out to be Admiral although More Than was a very close second.

The Admiral Home Insurance website was very easy to navigate and I found the quote very easy to get. I went ahead with the quote and applied this was also easy to do and didn't take that long. You have the choice to pay in a lump sum or pay by monthly direct debit. Which is what I chose to do I paid a deposit and then I would have 10 monthly installments to pay.

Once this was completed I was told I would receive an email confirmation, this came through within the hour. I was told that my policy details would be sent through the post shortly. Around 4 days later I received my policy details which I found to be all correct which made me happy as when I originally applied with Barclays Insurance I had to send it back as they had made a couple of errors. The paperwork had all the information on the cover I had applied for and I also received a booklet on their terms and conditions. It stated in the covering letter that I needed to send a direct debit application form to them, they supplied a pre-paid envelope for this.

I completed the form and posted it off, although I received a letter around 5 days later asking me to fill in a direct debit application within 7 days. So I decided to call their customer services just to check that they had received what I had previously sent them. The telephone conversation was painless, I was only on hold for around 4 minutes. This was around 9.15 on a Monday morning which I would have thought would be quite a popular time as their call centre is closed on Sunday. The lady who answered was very helpful and apologised saying that it is automated system that sends the letters and that they had received all my details and the insurance was set up.

All in all the website isn't as sparkly as some insurance companies but is simple to use. The experience I had with the call centre was very good and i found them very helpful. The call centre is open 8am-8pm Weekdays, 9am-2pm Saturdays but are closed on Sundays. The week day opening hours are very acceptable and at least they are open for half of the day on Saturday.

Summary: I would definitely recommend Admiral for their contents insurance

A nice review with some useful info - but to be VU I feel a review of insurance company needs info on how the company deal with claims. LEt's hope you don't have to make any!
