British Gas Powerflush fixed the radiators but emptied my bank account (British Gas HomeCare)

Advantages: After the Powerflush the radiators were very hot

Disadvantages: Very expensive

We bought a house with lukewarm radiators. After bleeding them and trying other home remedies, we felt we had to call in the professionals.

I had lots of doubts about geting a homecare agreement with British Gas. However, we did not know any good local plumbers and British Gas seemed like a safe option.

The British Gas engineer recommended a Powerflush at a cost of almost £800.00 to which we agreed. I did worry that we were paying too much.

When the British Gas engineer arrived, I offered him a cup of coffee. We spent the next half an hour talking about his goldfish collection and the history of my local town. I looked at my watch a lot.

However, once he started to work. He was very good. He was an enthusiast about plumbing and the equipment he used.

Since his visit about six months ago the radiators have been very, very hot. However, I still wonder if a cheaper option was available. I have heard that British Gas engineers get commission by recommending the Powerflush treatment and therefore it is not in their interest to sort out the problem in another way.

Summary: Still not convinced that this was the most effective solution to the cold radiator problem
