Advantages: someone to talk to if your lonely

Disadvantages: the cost against the service you dont get

If your considering this as an option, DONT ! I now pay £25.95 per month, if I was a new customer I would only pay £17.50, so staying loyal to British Gas costs me the extra £7.45, no discount for loyalty. My hotwater failed so I called for an engineer. He came and fitted a new part, shortly after he left the boiler began to leak. I called again, another engineer came and told me the previous man had left a screw loose on the part he had fitted. Not long after he had gone it started dripping water again. I called again, this time the engineer said maybe the previous engineer had disturbed something else, but that he had fitted a new o-ring which had solved the problem, yes after he had gone it dripped water. Not only that, he left one of the screws from the boiler casing on the attic floor. These people are not the engineers from years ago that took a pride in what they did, these are "engineers" with little training and no consideration for the good money paid by the likes of us for new boilers which on average cost around £2500.00. My advice is to shop around, ask others, and see if you cannot find a better alternative to these cowboys. Yes British Gas will gladly take your monthly payment, but dont expect a quality repair when you need it, and dont expect the boiler to be stripped and checked thoroughly when it comes around to your annual service, that basically constitutes a cursory glance at the flame colour, a quick look at the pressures, and supposedly a check for water leaks. I think that about sums up what you get. Dont rush into buying a service contact, you may well do better banking your cash and just paying someone as and if you need to. I have tried to give British Gas the benefit of doubt, but when and if they ever solve this problem my money is staying firmly in my back pocket and the d/debit will be cancelled. NEVER AGAIN.

Summary: Shop around, ask friends for recommendations for an alternative to British Gas, read the reviews.
