To my point, I had a fire in September 2003, and lost everything, from the first phonecall to theirs calims department I realised that cheaper is not better, it took the best part of an hour to get anything organised, the on hold music of "I did it my way" gets annoying after a while. An insurance Company is only as good as their Claims service, because at the end of the day all companys are good at doing the easy bit "TAKING THE MONEY" You get what you pay for, and when i took out my home and contents insurance policy in 2003 The last thing on my mind is if they pay out in the event of a claim, when buying insurance the main concern is "whos the cheapest" Well guilty of the above, I took the cheapest as i'd been happy with their money taking service for my car insurance, every month they took their payment without fail so why sould I have any reason to question the quality of their service. Every year that time comes when I have to phone around to find out who wants to charge me what to re-insure my car for another 12 months. Every year I try all the top companies and all the little ones, I have had insurance with various different companies including the likes of Endsliegh, Tesco Insurance but keep coming back to one company, Direct Line. Since being with Direct Line I have had 3 different cars and with every car they come back with the cheapest insurance quote, and they allow me to pay it monthly. I have always had trouble finding a decent home contents insurance company. Living in a council house, and in an area of deprivation, most insurance companies either refuse to quote or the premiums are prohibatively expensive. Plymouth council have helped by starting an insurance scheme via Royal. Again this is very expensive, and the cover is poor. When this insurance came up for renewal I phoned around. Direct line proved very helpful. They took time to explain the diferent types of cover. I made a saving of 40% over the council backed scheme.
