Cat spewed in my video, washing machine flooded my utility and larder fridge toppled over (onto me!) which could have been a total disaster for me cost-wise but this contents policy really did prove to be worth its weight in gold and in my mind the best household contents cover I have ever taken out (and I admit to buying some less than good ones) -mainly in terms of the actual cover that it provides and the speed in which claims are dealt with and settled. I live in the south east and my premium is £11.00 per month this covers: 1. £15,000. of house contents. Importantly this covers them from the usual elements: Fire, smoke, storm, flood, riot, malicious persons, subsidence, escape of water, theft, impacts from vehicles or falling trees (both inside the home and within the garden or outbuildings) ** Unlike most other policies this policy also covers every item for ACCIDENTAL DAMAGE - which does cover a mulitude of possible accidents to your belongings everyday. In addition to the conents themselves legal expenses are also covered to a ceiling of £25,000. The claim procedure is a straightforward and simple exersize which I have found particularly expedient, handled by helpful, polite and considerate personnel: 1.Initial contact is made by telephone to the claims department directly to advise of the loss/damage, a claims form is then posted out, I have usually received mine the next morning. 2.The form itself is easy to complete with the actual details of how the item(s) were damaged etc what the original cost was and the replacement value. 3. With damaged items an engineer is normally appointed by the insurers to inspect the item(s)and report back, if the item(s)is irrepairable a replacement is ordered and delivered directly - this happended with both my video and larder-fridge, replacement was quick. 4. A £50 excess exists on my policy which means the first £50 is paid by you, but this from m
y experience is standard in contents insurance policies. No-one wants inadequate insurance cover particularly when an item of value has been lost, stolen or broken, but this cover is from my experience good cover that gives peace of mind - particularly when you happen to be someone as accident prone as 'yours truly'!!!

- 18/10/01 Good op, only thing is that as I work in the insurance industry, I would ask everyone to check whether the level of cover they have is enough. Would £15,000 furnish and decorate your home to the level it is now if the worst happened. Think about the price of a fitted kitchen and bathroom, then TV, computer etc etc, it soon mounts up |
