I was patting myself on the back three years ago when I secured myself a fixed rate mortgage at a VERY good rate from my local high street Nationwide. This does have several terms and conditions applied to it, one of which is that I MUST purchase my buildings and contents insurance through the Nationwide. Along with many people when I took out my mortgage I also took out house and home cover with the same people. To be honest I did not think any more about it. I have not had any problems and so never needed to use the policy. That changed last week, a broken pipe resulted in the kitchen being flooded, damage to the walls and ceiling and me running round like a headless chicken.
