“ Brand: Simply Business / Type: Landlord House Insurance „
This is a review of the online company "Simply Business " who specialise in selling household insurance to Landlords, whom I recently did business with, and yes, it was a simple process and transaction! When we moved house last year, we decided to keep our old house and become landlords as we were still very emotionally attached to the house and didn't want to sell it. It's a beautiful house but just sadly in the wrong location for us.
At the time, everything moved quite quickly as we found friendly tenants (friend of a friend) who also loved the house and wanted to move in immediately. We hadn't found our current house so had to move in with my parents for a few months (with a very young baby as well!) so there were a few immediate tasks we had to undertake to prepare the house for our tenants. One of those actions was to get landlord's insurance. As we were cancelling our policy and just getting buildings insurance, I hoped it would be cheaper but in the end the old policy with Admiral had cancellation fees that swallowed up any credit with the company and the new policy cost £150. I swore that the next time round I wouldn't be rushed into buying the insurance and would shop around as I felt like I had paid twice for our insurance that year.
Once we got a reminder that our insurance was up for renewal I got online and started doing comparison searches but I found it difficult to get a quote from the known names and mainstream insurers as their online forms didn't seem to acknowledge our situation of being a landlord. The letter for renewal from Admiral didn't even include a quote as they claimed they did not have enough information on file to give us a quote. Well they had enough info at the time to insure us!
I googled the search term "Cheap landlord's insurance" and one of the first matches that came up was Simply Business. A check on TopCashBack promised £15 back for a policy with them so I decided to get a quote. The quote came out at £130 and with the cashback I thought this was a fair price for the insurance.
Transaction and Paperwork
The transaction was easy to do, using a credit card as I feel more protected with online transactions paying this way and we were not charged any extra percentage for using this method. An email confirming the policy immediately landed in my inbox. Two days later we received the paperwork in the post confirming the policy and I was very pleased with the service. The Cash Back has tracked on the account and whilst it takes a while to be available it is comforting to see it listed. I know it's only £15 but it's a nice little bit back and helps you choose that company over others.
I know this is a slightly specialised area and this company also provide insurance to businesses as well as private landlords. I obviously have not yet had to make a claim with this company and hope never to do so. With buildings insurance you are really just covering yourself in an extreme situation but it is a necessary evil. The contents insurance is down to the tenants and we will cover the wear and tear on the house as appropriate. I would recommend this company as a professional and stress free experience and have not had to sit on the phone for hours or had to negotiate and argue prices with them. I felt a lot better about this transaction than I did the first time around. Thank you for reading my review on Simply Business, I hope it wasn't too boring.
