Advantages: Fast site , easy to use

Disadvantages: Cost, Minimum insurance levels too high

I am a great fan of Tesco.com so when I was doing the weekly shop this week I noticed a link to Tesco personal finance who were boasting 5% discount on home insurance policies and very competetive quotes.

When I had completed the online shopping (which IS very good) I followed the link to the home insurance quotes page.

Firstly I was surprised to see that the minimum value they will quote for is for a property valued at £130000. This is quite a high value if you live outside of the south east of the UK.

The site is very easy to use, with good menus and is easy to access. It only takes a couple of minutes to retrieve the quote.

After entering al the data from the renewal document (to get a comparative cost I used exactly the same data) it turned out to be more expensive by about £30.

The overall quality of the service was poorer than I had expected and did not really fit in with the branding and image of good value, quality products I expect from a retailer like Tesco.

Ah well. Back to the drawing board.
