This week, I received my renewal notice from my usual insurance agent, and, as it had not gone up from last year and provided quite good service, phoned them back to pay. Out of courtesy more than anything, I told them that I was not working full-time anymore but as from this week would be a mature student. I would be living in the same house, partner in the same job and the house would probably be occupied more than when I was working full-time. They ran the details through again and said they wanted another £70.00 per year.
I told them to review their customer policy (I'm sure that's what I said!) and decided against renewing my policy with them.

Instead I rang Tesco Personal Finance. They listened to my story of being charged extra for being a student and said it was one of the silliest things they ever heard. They took my details and quoted me a price. The cover was slightly less than with the old company (but I would never've needed all of that anyway) but they saved me not only the £70.00 extra but also another £35.00 per year. It's not a great deal but worth a phone call.

It was quick, easy, friendly and my house was covered straight away.

You first get an automated service and you press the buttons for whichever service you need. You may need to wait a while but I wasn't waiting too long (the whole call took about ten minutes including the quotation running through the computer database).

I think insurance is a necessary evil so the less messing about and the cheaper the cost the better. You get the same farting-about when you come to claim with most companies anyway (that's if you ever need to in the first place).

I also called them for my car insurance which is due next week and got the same service again along with a cheap price.

If their supermarkets were the same pleasant experience I would never leave!
