Ikea Jansjo LED Work Lamp
by Holland1
This lamp was part of my husband's lovely gesture of turning one of our in-built cupboards into a sewing corner for me. He fitted a fold-down desk from Ikea, and bought this lamp to go on the desk and give a bit of extra light for when I'm doing close sewing or stitching work.
The lamp is a desk lamp, so rather than having a ... clamp base it sits on the desk with a circular base measuring about the same as an average drinks coaster. The main body of the lamp is on a spring mechanism, which is adjustable so you can direct the light where you need it. Because the actual bulb is very small, it gives quite a strong intense light, almost like a spotlight, so I would say it's more suitable for close work rather than lighting an entire room. I did wonder whether the weight of the body might cause the base to topple over, but I have never experienced this as yet.
The lamp uses LEDs, which according to the Ikea website consume up to 85% less energy and last 20 times longer than incandescent bulbs. I haven't had it long so I've not had to change the bulb yet, but hopefully the bulbs themselves will be easy to get hold of from Ikea. The head of the lamp is so small, it doesn't really attract any dust because there's not much room for dust to settle. This makes it low maintenance to look after.
The switch for the lamp is on the lead, which is very long and should give plenty of options regarding where to put the lamp so it's close to your sockets. The lamp itself is available in black or white. Mine is the white one as this suits our décor in the room, and it's a very functional solution for this hobby which requires very good eyesight and sometimes fiddly work!
Currently retailing at £10, this lamp is a good functional lamp giving intense spotlight style lighting, and is best suited to desk work.

Lloytron L1110 Observer Desk Lamp
by trayrope
After decorating my son's bedroom at the start of this year (2012) I was looking for a desk lamp that would match his beige and deep red theme. I needed quite a compact lamp as my son's room is quite small and every inch of space is important.
The lamp that caught my eye while once again browsing on amazon.co.uk was the ... Lloytron L1110 (who makes these names up?). It currently sells for £10.89 with free postage and I think that is about what I paid for it.
So after a nearly a year of sharing a room with my son I decided to see how it was fairing. The lamp still looks like it did the day it came out of the box. The beautiful metallic cherry red finish is still flawless despite the lamp getting quite hot around the shade area when turned on. The flexible neck is still fully functional meaning the light shed by the lamp can be manoeuvred in any direction to suit whatever task is being undertaken by the light of the lamp.
The power cord is about 2 meters long and has an on/off switch situated about 20cm along the cable from the lamp. The lamp stands 17 inch high when full extended and folds down to 11 inches quite comfortably. The round base is 5 ½ inches across so needs to be situated in a large enough space so that it does not look cramped.
I would estimate that the lamp weighs a couple of Kilos and the majority of that weight is in the base, giving the lamp great stability.
The bulb currently in the lamp is a low wattage, small screw in candle bulb. This sheds an excellent amount of light due to the inside of the shade being white. The size of the shade is large enough to house a traditional style bulb or an energy saving style bulb.
My son uses this lamp for reading just before bed or as a side lamp when he is on his computer playing games or watching movies.
In conclusion this is another excellent lamp from Lloytron, the build quality is a lot better then what I would expect from such a low price. The lamp is available in other colours including silver and cream, while I would not say the lamp is ideal for a large room or formal type of room it is great for a small bedroom or office.

Lloytron L946BH Hobby Desk Lamp
by trayrope
When my husband and I were looking for new bedside lamps we wanted something that looked modern as well as being functional. I had always liked the look of the lamp that hops across the screen at the start of the Pixar films so I really wanted one of these.
After a quick browse on the source of my financial woes, ... amazon.co.uk, I came across the Lloytron L9446BH Hobby Desk Lamp, priced at less than £15 including postage. I soon had one in my virtual shopping basket and was anticipating delivery in a couple of days.
When the lamp arrived it appeared to be in two parts so I popped it to one side for Mr H to put together. Mr H soon had the lamp slotted onto its base and after a quick scrabble around to find a 40w screw in bulb we were up and running. The majority of screw in bulbs fit into the lamp, we currently have the curly energy saver ones fitted but the traditional style bulbs fit just as well.
The lamp I ordered comes in attractive black chrome; it is highly polished but seems to be finger print resistant and maintains its shine with a quick once over with a duster once a week.
What I like about the lamp is that it looks mechanical, it has a hinge in the middle of the post that allows for great flexibility in the height of the lamp, fully stretched it stands 22 inches high but still has a slight bend in it that makes it look like it is poised to bounce across the desk at any minute. When bent it stands 11 inches high and looks like it is trying to see something on the desk. The post can be manipulated by bending it to any height between the minimum 11 inches and the maximum 22 inches. The lamp can only be manipulated forwards, try and bend it backwards and you will snap it. During all the manoeuvres you have the ability to turn the lamp shade nearly a full 360 degrees either way. This amount of versatility in the positioning of the lamp means that it is great for using for close up work or for pointing away from yourself when you want a gentle light to read by.
The electrical cable runs down the lamp post and away from the base, positioned 12 inches along the cable is an on/off switch at the end of the 4ft (ish) electrical cable is the plug.
As I previously said I really do like the lamp, it is very flexible which makes it great for reading in bed or shining a light on close up craft work. The chrome finish is top quality and the lamp feels quite weighty for the price paid. The base is very sturdy and the lamp had never fell over or been knocked off the bedside. When the lamp has been turned on for a while the shade does get quite hot, as it is made from metal, so a small amount of caution needs to be exercised if you decided to move it while it is on.
The lamps are currently available on amazon.co.uk for the great price of £13.45 with free postage and packaging. I think they make a great reading lamp and look quite neat and tidy on my bedside, after having the first lamp and being pleased with the quality I ordered a second lamp.
