Argos Value Range Paper Shades
by kama0529 I got a pack of Argos Value Range Paper Shades about a year ago. The pack of three paper shades cost me just £4.99 direct from Argos, which equates to just £1.66 per shade - which I think is a great price and one that I really cannot complain about. As I said, there are three shades per pack with a shade of a different shape ... - namely square, triangular and spherical. They do need a little minor assembly which is just a matter of inserting the metal insight into the appropriate paper shape. This is easy to do and is really childs' play. This just obviously then hooks over the light cable - and then the shade covers the lightbulb and provides a decent shade from the light. They are suitable for 60 watt bulbs and this is the bulbs we have used with them without any problems. The paper is decent quality and does not tear or break easily. However, because the shades are white, they do become discoloured after a year - and our shades are about ready to be replaced. I would like having the option of other colours, but when I was looking I didn't see any other colours available. Overall, I think these shades are a good value product and I've been quite pleased with the purchase. Read the complete review |

Argos Value Range Paper Shades
by cornishchic When I moved into my first home I wanted to try and find home ware as cheap as I possibly could. The couple of weeks before moving I spent hours and hours searching for good value goods. That's when I purchased these paper light shades, they looked good and, more importantly, were cheap. ** What are they ** There ... are three light shades in this packet, a round one like a ball, a square one and a long triangle one, they are all the same cream colour. The shades come flat packed in individual plastic covers, with assembly instructions too. I paid £4.99 for these 2 years ago and after a quick look are still available for this price. ** Assembly ** Putting the shades together and hanging them up is simple. There is a metal wire included for each shade, these keep the shape of the shade in place. Just attach the wire to the two slots in the bottom of the shade and pull the paper up around it, then attach the wire to the top of the shade and it's done. To attach a shade to a light fitting, just find the slot on the metal wire in the shade and pull the wire through. I actually got my mum to do this because I'm a shortie and she found it much easier being just that bit taller, although if she wasn't around I think I could of managed just fine. ** Opinion ** I originally just bought one pack of these shades for the main rooms in my house, the lounge, my bedroom and daughter's bedroom. After using them for a couple of months and finding them great, I bought another set to put on my landing, inside the front door and inside the back door. I can't fault these, although they are paper and quite flimsy, none have ripped or torn after being up for over 2 years. As long as care is taken when hanging these for the first time, making sure a finger doesn't puncture through the shades, I don't see any reason for these to tear. I find cleaning them quite easy, I use a long feather duster and it does the job just fine, again, without ripping or tearing. I'd definitely recommend these to anyone looking for a cheap light fitting. They tick all the boxes for me. They are easy to clean, easy to assemble and look fantastic. At £4.99 I think these are fantastic value for money. Read the complete review |

Argos Value Range Paper Shades
by dawnmarywhite I bought this set of three paper lampshades for £4.99 back in 2005. We had just moved into a rented furnished cottage in Oxford and I badly wanted to change the questionable green lampshades that were already there! Since the house was rather dinky, I only needed three - living room, hall and bedroom. The rest of the rooms had flush ... ceiling light fittings. Flicking through the Laminated Book of Dreams (i.e. the Argos catalogue) I was chuffed to see this set for that price and on the shopping list they went. Something that's not particularly obvious from the picture, is that each one is actually a different colour - the round one is cream, the rectangular one is blue and the triangular one is pink. The colours are very pale though so can easily be blended into most colour schemes. They obviously can't take any real cleaning, but I found all they needed was a regular gentle dust with a feather duster. They come flatpacked like a concertina, and all you do is remove their plastic sleeves and pull them out. They attach to your light fitting by simply clipping over the cable. The paper is very thin and feels really fragile but being as they spend their life high up on the ceiling, this shouldn't be an issue - just be careful you don't stick your finger through them when unpacking and putting them up! Due to this I was unable to use them again after moving out of that house, but they had been up for 3 years so I didn't complain! They would have been absolutely fine for longer and I would have just left them up if we weren't leaving. I did often catch the bedroom one when I was changing the bedding; I would whip the duvet around, sending the lampshade battering against the ceiling but it never broke or bent, it only had a few small tears that were invisible unless you knew they were there. I really like paper lampshades, I think they are very pretty and when the light is switched on it shines through ever so slightly tinged with the colour of the shade. They should not be used with high wattage bulbs for safety reasons, but I used them with energy savers with no problems. Due to their shape, it's no problem to easily hide bulky energy saving bulbs which is a plus! Overall, I would definitely recommend these. They are a serious bargain and perfect if you want to cheer up a rental, or even just fancy a change in your house. At that price you barely need an excuse. Sure, the quality isn't out of this world, but once you get them up you don't need to touch them again until you're taking them down. They don't look low quality when they're up either and are so easy to fit. They really cheered up my rented cottage, and I would buy them again. I'm very glad I got them, that only left the awful matching green curtains to change. God bless Primark! Read the complete review |
