“ Brand: Argos / Type: Table lamp „
We needed a couple of small table lamps, one for our desk and the other for a bed side table. We didn't want to spend a fortune so decided to check out places like Argos and Tesco to see what they had available. Most of the lamps we saw were far too big for out needs, the smaller the better for us. We saw this pair of lamps in argos for about £10 (for the pair) and decided they looked like a pretty good deal.
We got the lamps home and unboxed them. The lamps come in two parts, the lamp base unit and the shade. They are well packaged in small card boxes. We decided to go for the cream however they are available in a variety of colours, including red, brown (chocolate), blue, purple etc. The lamp base is a smallish ceramic oval shape which looks nice. The lamp stand at just under 30cm which a perfect size for a bed side lamp. The shade is the same colour as the lamp and the overall look/style is great when the lamp is switched on or off.
There is a switch half way along the power cable which can be used to turn the lamp on and off which is handy. The power cable is a decent length, but you would not be able to put it across the other side of the room to a power socket. It is designed to be near a power socket. We use energy saving bulbs (7w I believe) which are not included (as with the majority of lamps that are for sale).
The lamps give off a nice level of light (although this also depends on the type of bulb you use) and again are perfect to use next to a bed for a reading light.
All in all I was very happy with our purchase. We have been using the lamps for around 6 months now and even though they were only £5ish each they have not failed us yet. We use them everyday and would certainly recommend them.
I must admit I like to change things around in my house quite regularly, in my opinion this keeps it looking new and fresh. I recently decided to change a few things in one of our bedrooms. I bought a new duvet cover and matching lamps for the bedside cabinets. This review covers the bedside lamps.
I bought them from Argos from their Colour Match range. Its a reasonably priced range of household items and soft furnishes that come in matching colours so for someone like me who loves things to match and be coordinated its ideal. The colour choices are:-
Poppy Red ( this is the colour Dooyoo are showing the lamps in)
Duck Egg Blue
I chose the Ceramic Pebble Table Lamps, to give them their correct name, in Funky Fuchsia which is a lovely bright pink. The lamps came well packed in a sturdy cardboard box however, when I got my lamps home one was cracked so if you do purchase anything breakable from Argos I would suggest asking to see the item before you take it away. Anyway, a trip back to Argos later and I returned home with 2 undamaged lamps.
The lamps are 26 cm's high and the diameter of the shade is 15cm's. The base of the lamp is a rounded flattish pebble shape, hence the name, and has a short silver coloured stem coming up from the centre. This is what the bulb fittings are attached to and of course the shade. The shade is just a plain round shade but it complements the pebble shaped base perfectly. If you fancy a more elaborate shade there's nothing stopping you putting a tassel/trim around it.
The cable is 1.75 meters long and has what Argos describe as an in line switch approximately 40cm's down the cable. This is just a small on/off switch that works like an ordinary light, it just presses on and off. I like the position of the switch because it hangs well down beside the bed so its not seen but its still easy enough to just reach and turn on or off. The lams come already fitted with plugs and require 7W energy saving SES golf ball bulbs which are not included.
I'm thrilled with my lamps, they cost £11.99 a pair, although they now have 1/3 off and cost just £7.99 a pair, they are plain and simple but in my opinion look quite modern and stylish. They come in gorgeous colours which would suit both adult or children's rooms. I'm using mine as bedside lamps and find them ideal for reading or just when I need to go to the loo at night.
The ceramic pebble table lamps would be suitable for a lounge, hallway or dining room but in my opinion I think they look more of a bedroom item but each to their own. I'm thrilled with mine and have since bought the matching lampshade for the bedroom too. If you are looking for a reasonably priced pair of lamps I would definitely recommend these from Argos
