A great floor lamp with a cheap price tag. Definitely worth the money.

When I moved house last year I decided that I was going to have my whole house decorated in a specific way. It has taken me literally ages to get there but I only have my sofa to go now. One of the first things I bought however was this floor lamp, I never use the main light in the living room as it's too harsh and too bright not only whilst I am working but also whilst I am trying to relax and so I decided to go for a free standing floor lamp that would allow me to have softer lighting without worrying about where to put a table lamp. I scoured through a good few but I knew my colour scheme was going to be brown and cream with a hint of colour. I decided my safest option would be to go with a cream lamp which is what I did, my mum has the same lamp in red and I have to say I'm not a fan of it, the colour seems extremely rich and would have been too harsh in my room so I am glad I went for the cream. The lamp is available both online for both home delivery and reservation and instore which is how I got mine. I was surprised at just how small the box was, it was a square shape and not much bigger than the size of the lampshade attached to the pole but I need not have worried. On opening the box you are presented with a solid mirrored base which is really rather heavy which is good for making sure it stays in place. The pole comes in 3 parts which easily screw together and the wire light the bulb runs through the base and up through the pole making it neat and tidy without a loose wire hanging around. The shade attaches easily and the bulb holder allows for both regular and energy saving bulbs to be used. I can't remember what wattage is in mine I have a feeling it's a 40 but I haven't had to change it since I bought it a year or so ago but you cannot use any more than 60watts which in a lamp is more than sufficient anyway. The shade is wide enough to allow plenty of light to escape and light up my entire living room without being too harsh. The light is very gentle even having the cream shade. My mum having the red shade finds her living room having a reddish tinge to it, not really the sort of look you want in a regular family home but if that kind of thing floats your boat then this lamp is for you. The switch to turn the lamp on is attached to the cable that escapes from the base before joining up at the plug to the wall. This is a floor button you can use your foot to press to light. As my lamp sits next to and almost behind the couch I tend to just use the wall to switch my lamp on and off and have never experienced a problem neither have I had a problem when using the floor button. Whatever suits you I suppose. As I say I have had this lamp around a year and it still looks exactly the same as it did when I put it up, the base gets a bit dusty but a wipe round with a wipe or damp cloth sorts it out easily enough. The shade itself hasn't been dusty at all, I wipe it over every once in a while and spray some fabric freshener on it and it seems to be enough to keep it clean. I would highly recommend this lamp to anyone, there are various colours available but like I said I know my mum found a colour tinge in her room with a coloured lamp. The colours are also extremely bright which is something to consider. For £19.99 I think this is a great alternative to using a harsh room light and sets a much more relaxing tone which is exactly what I need.

A nice useful piece for the home

Our house is open plan with the stairs going up from the lounge. Our stairs go up in an L shape with a nice rectangle landing separating the 2 lots of stairs. As this landing can be seen from both the lounge and upstairs I wanted something to stand in the corner of it that would look nice. I like my home to be colour coordinated, in fact I'm quite obsessive about it, and one of the places I looked was Argos at their colour match range. Its reasonably priced and does a whole range of house hold objects and furnishings in a wide range of matching colours. We decided to buy the Argos Colour Match Tapered Floor Lamp. The base and stem of the lamp is a brushed silver colour and the shade is available in all the colours, we opted for purple fizz as our lounge is mainly black with some purple and the lamp can be seen from the lounge. Other colours include black, natural, poppy red, chocolate, funky fuchsia and many more. The Tapered floor lamp currently costs £19.99. The lamp was very easy to assemble, the stem just slotted together with the base at the bottom and the shade and bulb fitting at the top. Instructions are included but its fairly self explanatory really. There is no wiring as such to do, the cable is threaded through the poles and the lamp just needs plugging in. There is plenty of cable included so you don't need to stand the lamp close to a socket. The switch is described as an in line switch and is situated on the cable, there is also a switch on the base of the lamp. we never use this we just use the switch on the cable. The overall height of the lamp is approximately 158 cm's and the diameter of the base is 25cm's. The shade has a diameter of approximately 38cm;s and tapers in slightly towards the top. The lamp will take a 12W energy saving bulb but you do need the screw in type. I am totally 100% pleased with my floor lamp, apart from looking stylish its useful too. We have it on in the evenings rather than the main centre light in the lounge. It gives a lovely soft glow down the stairs and into the lounge and also upstairs too. Its a nice affordable lamp that looks a lot better quality than you would imagine for the price and of course it comes in a lot of different colour choices. If you are looking for a floor lamp I would definitely recommend checking the Argos colour match range.

      A nice buy!

For Christmas all I was really concerned about was getting some nice bits and pieces for my flat really a gifts. Having moved to a much larger place on my own opposed to in a flat share I really did need alot of things, and me well I needed nothing for myself lol. Me and my mate decided to have our Christmas after Christmas as we both went to our parents over the Christmas period. I had bought all my friends presents and wrapped them up before Christmas, trying to be organised. My mate however left my gift buying till after Christmas which meant she hit the sales and I got spoilt rotton! One of things I mentioned to her that I did want was this Colour Match Floor Lamp from Argos with the 'Purple Fizz' Shade for my large hallway. However she got this one but the one I actually wanted was cheaper than this one (at full price and not in the sales!) and was a paper one so when I initially opened this up I was a bit gutted to be totally honest with you. However when I got it put up I realised that this was a great lamp because I have the option of buying different coloured shades for it in the future should I decide upon a change of colourscheme! The Packaging: This came not made up (in bits) in a white box where we are told what it is and who it is by etc and within the box there is a small and basic instruction leaflet explaining very well indeed how to erect it and contact details for Argos are given. The Lamp itself: First off this comes in a silver finish and with the lampshade colour of your choice and those colours are cream, black, chocolate, red and my colour choice, the purple. To put this together is simple enough and not all that time consuming either. You simply get three long cylinder and thin tubes that you attatch to the round silver polished small base, you thread the black power lead through it leaving you with a large black platic switch to the bottom of it and twist the lampshade on and thats it basically and it measures when made up: Height 159cm: Diameter of base 25cm. The lampshade (no matter the colour you opt for) is a soft material howoever I have the purple fizz colour and it doesn't give all that much light through it purely becaue the purple shade is so dark (so if you want more light of course choose a lighter shade!). However my mate paid about £13.00 for this (in the sale) and usually (now) it costs £19.99. It does look a bit flimsy but it isn't and it is sleek and stylish and not too big at all. Its a nice height, eay to use the on/off switch and all in all I really like ecnomical looking lamp and am rather pleased with it all in all! Only available from Argos and Argos.com
