We have quite a bit of decorating to do in our new house to modernise - most of it being simply decor, so as we gradually do rooms up, we obviously need some new and matching accessories. We did bring some lamps from our previous house but in the room we have recently done up, I wanted a nice new lamp to match the new decor but I didn't want to spend a fortune. I love Dunelm and have been happy with nearly everything that I have bought from the shop before, so a while ago I visited and picked up this crackle glass lamp in a champagne colour, rather than the one shown above. THis lamp comes in a couple of different colours, including a plum colour, but it was the natural champagne colour that fitted the decor of the room best.
This lamp cost me £19.99 which I thought was a fair price for a pretty lamp, and it is very pretty. It has a faux silk shade and in my case this shade is a slightly deeper champagne colour than the sparkly crackled base. It is beautiful when lit and gives enough light for what I need, although probably not enough if you are trying to use this lamp alone to light a big area - two may be required for this, or this one alongside a coordinating crackle glass light fitting.
This lamp would be suitable for both a living room or a bedroom. I have seen lamps like this costing a lot more money that what dunelm is charging and yet I wonder who could tell the difference. There is a richness about this lamp when it is lit in particular, and can just finish off a table or room with the sparkly crackle glass element, that makes it that little bit different from a regular lamp.
I have had this lamp now for over a month and have been extremely pleased with it, and it is yet another product form Dunelm that has been a great price for great quality. I would happily recommend this lamp, to anyone wanting a modern, rich looking lamp to finish off a room and add a touch of sparkle!
Everyone who knows me, knows how much I love things that glitter and sparkle. You need sunglasses before you walk into my home, right down to the glittery toilet seats, everything sparkles and shimmers. That's why I just couldn't walk past the Crackle Glass Lamps in Dunelm. In fact, I ended up buying four!
About the product
The product promises to 'brighten up your living space' and to add some gorgeous glamour to your home in an instant. The top of the lamp shade is described as being faux silk and it is satiny and smooth in its appearance. Even though it is black, it doesn't attract much dust, and what it does attract can be easily wiped off with a dry duster. The neck of the product is a metallic silver colour which suits the product well and the base is made out of a gorgeous crackled mirrored glass. The cracked glass part feels quite rough and can be a little sharp in places but not to the point where young children.
Even when the product is not light, it looks really beautiful especially if the sunshine is shining on it. When it does it sparkles beautifully and makes little patterns on the wall. The switch on the lamp is easy to push and it never gets jammed or stuck. It casts a beautiful last into the room which is neither too light nor too dim which makes it perfect for bed side tables. The glass shimmers beautifully as you wake around the room. The lamp is quite heavy which makes it sturdy so you don't have to worry about knocking it over and it smashing.
The product doesn't come with a bulb but they are not hard to find and I picked one up quite cheaply in Asda. It will hold a maximum of 46 Watts and you should get a small Edison Screw SES bulb. I got a candle shaped one which makes the product look even more elegant. Despite the product being sparkly, when on display it isn't overly girly and it doesn't look tacky in anyway. My other half is fine with having them in our bedroom and spare bedroom, and although he admittedly wouldn't having chosen them himself, he has admitted that they look very nice. They look far more expensive than they were and they are of a very good quality. The lamps are sturdy however one did get broken in transit whilst moving houses so you do need to pack them carefully if you are transporting the lamp somewhere else.
The lamps cost only £19.99 which I thought was quite a good deal. They can be bought from Dunelm and also from the Dunelm website. If you like the product but the colour is not quite to your liking then the product also comes in two other shades. You can choose between the plum lamp shade which has a purple shade and purple cracked glass or the champagne shade which is better for more neutral settings. The other two shades don't sparkle as nicely as the black and silver shades though.
All in all, this is a beautiful and classy lamp that will add a touch of elegant glamour to any room. They look expensive and are quite heavy so you won't need to worry about it falling and breaking. The bulbs are easy to get hold of and come at a cheap price. I couldn't be any happier with my beautiful lamps.
~*~*~ Crackle Glass Lamp ~*~*~
~ What is it? ~
This is a lovely sparkly lamp available to purchase at Dunelm Mill. The crackle effect is really nice and looks smart and modern. It is available in a range of colours -
There is also a smaller lamp in this style available in Red.
The lamp costs a very respectable £19.99 and this price includes the shade.
~ Why did I buy it? ~
I have a thing about lamps and when I see one I really fancy I have to buy it, such a sucker for something pretty and sparkly too!
My living room is currently decorated in black, grey, white and silver and this lamps fits the colour scheme perfectly ... I bought it in black.
I ordered it online from www.dunelm-mill.com along with a few other bits, as far as I am aware it is also available for purchase in store.
~ The glitzy lamp ~
Having already seen, and fallen in love with the lamp online I thought I knew what to expect but it is so much nicer in 'real' life. The crackled glass feels like crackled glass to the touch but it isn't sharp in anyway, it just feels bumpy. It has a mirror like shine and catches the light perfectly which causes it to sparkle and shine, the shade is a plain black faux silk and also has a nice sheen to it.
The lamp certainly looks more pricey than the £19.99 price tag!
The lamp didn't include a bulb but it requires a small screw in bulb as do most lamps these days I have found!
The shade is quite thin and this can be noticed more when the lamp is on in the evenings but it doesn't take away from the lamps overall charm, in the day it is beautiful and the sunlight bounces off the mosaic like base to make it sparkle so it sparkles all day and all night!
It's quite heavy and study and as the base is adequately chunky it doesn't wobble at all.
I have mine on a low (shabby chic'd) table and it does look really nice and finishes off the room lovely.
I am tempted to buy another one for my bedroom as it is so gorgeous!
I would highly recommend this lamp, it looks lovely and is very purse friendly.
Thanks for reading :o) x
I ordered this Crackle Glass Lamp off the Dunelm Mill website for my bedroom when I first moved into my house. I had a similar lamp in purple downstairs that I loved, so I couldn't resist getting another.
Because I got this delivered, it came in a cardboard box but as far as I am aware, this does not come in any packaging if you buy it in store.
This lamp is 38cm high, with a black faux silk (ie. polyester) shade and a rounded base that is made from hundreds of little bits of glass, giving a 'crackled' look. The lamp comes without a bulb, and uses 60w bulbs (screw in bulbs are not suitable).
LOOK AND FEEL
I love the look of this lamp. The black shade, being made from polyester, perhaps doesn't look like faux silk as Dunelm claim, but I think for the price this is acceptable.
I really like the crackled glass effect - it was the main reason I bought the lamp. I do think the tiny little bits of shattered glass feel weird to the touch, and when I hold it, you do think that it could cut you but in reality this isn't the case. All the bits of glass are well secured/glued on, and I have no concerns that bits of glass will come off whatsoever.
What I love about the glass is that if sunlight is coming in through my bedroom window, it reflects off the glass, and creates pretty patterns on the wall. I am sure that wasn't the intent of the glass base, but it's a nice bonus!
I have found that the dust gathers on the shade rather easily, but I give it a wipe over with a slightly damp cloth every week or so, and this helps to keep the shade looking as best it can.
The base keeps looking shiny and pristine if you run a cloth with some polish on it over it every so often.
Like I said, I have this lamp in my bedroom. It sits on top of my chest of drawers and it's the first thing I notice when I walk into the room every day. I think it looks very striking, and it would look good in living rooms as well as bedrooms in my opinion.
This looks as good as it did the day I bought it, and unless I dramatically alter the colour scheme in my bedroom, I can see me keeping this lamp for a very long time.
This cost £19.99 which I think is great considering that the base is made of glass. As mentioned before, I have a similar lamp in purple which sits in my living room. I bought that lamp from Next and it was around £40. The only real difference I have found with the Next lamp is that the shade is made from a much nicer, shinier material. It annoys me now that I spent so much on the Next lamp considering this one from Dunelm is pretty much as good for half the price.
WOULD I BUY THIS AGAIN?
I would, yes. If it broke I would probably go and get another one. If my bedroom was bigger and had more furniture, I'd probably have 2 in there instead of just one. I would recommend this lamp for someone who wants something a little different, or who likes all things sparkly.
