When my younger sister left home, I think my mum and dad felt a little lonely as they immediately decided to decorate her bedroom and turn it into a room for my daughter for when she stopped over. Lauren is princess mad so this was the theme that they decided to pick and when we spotted this on a visit to B&Q, they went back and brought it for her.
My mum paid £34.99 for the light from B&Q, I have not seen this product available anywhere else and it currently is not available on line, you can however pick a used one up off EBay for around £15 plus postage and packaging.
Setting the light up was really easy, the bulb was already included so once removed from the packaging, it was ready to go.
The light is in the shape of Disney's Sleeping Beauty and measures around 30cm tall, it is made from plastic which is quite thick and quite a nice quality feel to it. The base of the lamp covers quite a large area meaning that it is really sturdy; Lauren has knocked it off her bedside table a couple of times onto a laminate floor but it has not damaged in anyway.
I really liked the product, where my daughter's bed was situated was not close a plus socket yet the lamp has a 2m cord so my mum didn't have to worry about moving any furniture or buy an extension lead. On the cord there is a simple on / off switch to operate the light; this is really easy to operate -even for little hands.
Despite this not being from the Disney Store, the character does look very much like Sleeping Beauty and not a cheap imitation.
What I like about the lamp is that the bulb is concealed, so I know that Lauren cant burn her fingers if the light get left on and starts to get warm. The bulb is also energy saving, which is great but like most energy saving bulbs, it does take a while to brighten up. Because the plastic is pink, when turned on it gives a nice warm glow to the room, it is light enough to still be able to read a bedtime story yet not too bright to keep you awake should it get left on by accident (although Lauren did have a habit of turning it on when she was put to bed as although she loves stopping at grandma's, she doesn't sleep too well in a strange bed).
Overall, this is a beautiful lamp, however having said that, I do think £35 is quite expensive and I don't think I would pay that much for a lamp. Because of the price, I would give the lamp 4 out of 5 stars, if this was a little cheaper, I would definitely give it 5 out of 5.
