The IKEA grono lamp is a brilliant little buy that will be great in nearly any room. The lamp is very simple, itis a single bulb inside a cube made out of frosted glass. There is a groove in the glass which the cable comes out of to keep it stable. This lamp doesn't get very hot so it is okay to use it anywhere in a room. I bought one of these lamps a few years ago and because it was so useful have bought two more since. The bulb is not particularly bright, especially when it is first turned on as it takes a little time to warm up properly. Once the light is at full glow it is good for ambient lighting in a room, it is not good enough to read by though. I haven't tried putting a higher wattage bulb in replace to the shop one but i imagine that would make it a bit brighter.
It is Ikea so it is crazily street but the downside is that pretty much every student household will have three of these floating around. It is not a very individual unique lamp unfortunately.
