Ever wanted a Pixar lamp? These are just as cool.

When my husband and I were looking for new bedside lamps we wanted something that looked modern as well as being functional. I had always liked the look of the lamp that hops across the screen at the start of the Pixar films so I really wanted one of these.

After a quick browse on the source of my financial woes, amazon.co.uk, I came across the Lloytron L9446BH Hobby Desk Lamp, priced at less than £15 including postage. I soon had one in my virtual shopping basket and was anticipating delivery in a couple of days.

When the lamp arrived it appeared to be in two parts so I popped it to one side for Mr H to put together. Mr H soon had the lamp slotted onto its base and after a quick scrabble around to find a 40w screw in bulb we were up and running. The majority of screw in bulbs fit into the lamp, we currently have the curly energy saver ones fitted but the traditional style bulbs fit just as well.

The lamp I ordered comes in attractive black chrome; it is highly polished but seems to be finger print resistant and maintains its shine with a quick once over with a duster once a week.

What I like about the lamp is that it looks mechanical, it has a hinge in the middle of the post that allows for great flexibility in the height of the lamp, fully stretched it stands 22 inches high but still has a slight bend in it that makes it look like it is poised to bounce across the desk at any minute. When bent it stands 11 inches high and looks like it is trying to see something on the desk. The post can be manipulated by bending it to any height between the minimum 11 inches and the maximum 22 inches. The lamp can only be manipulated forwards, try and bend it backwards and you will snap it. During all the manoeuvres you have the ability to turn the lamp shade nearly a full 360 degrees either way. This amount of versatility in the positioning of the lamp means that it is great for using for close up work or for pointing away from yourself when you want a gentle light to read by.

The electrical cable runs down the lamp post and away from the base, positioned 12 inches along the cable is an on/off switch at the end of the 4ft (ish) electrical cable is the plug.

As I previously said I really do like the lamp, it is very flexible which makes it great for reading in bed or shining a light on close up craft work. The chrome finish is top quality and the lamp feels quite weighty for the price paid. The base is very sturdy and the lamp had never fell over or been knocked off the bedside. When the lamp has been turned on for a while the shade does get quite hot, as it is made from metal, so a small amount of caution needs to be exercised if you decided to move it while it is on.

The lamps are currently available on amazon.co.uk for the great price of £13.45 with free postage and packaging. I think they make a great reading lamp and look quite neat and tidy on my bedside, after having the first lamp and being pleased with the quality I ordered a second lamp.

      Thank you for reading.
