The Mathmos Aduki is a piece of decorative mood lighting. The weighty, pebble shaped object is chrome on the underside and white or coloured on top - depending on the specific model.
The device itself changes gradually across a range of colours, and has a gentle soothing effect when viewed in a dark room. As the Aduki is splash proof, it would be a perfect companion to an evening barbeque, where it could safely be used outdoors.
Aduki can be used whilst constantly plugged in, or be charged and left unplugged. The makers claim that the Aduki will give you between 750 and 1000 charges, lasting around 6 hours before needing to be charged again. In my experience, the device only provides around 3 hours of light before needing to be topped up.
The product is a good idea, but it's rather gimmicky and the novelty wears off quickly. It's not something that will find a large market like Mathmos' iconic range of lava lamps - but it would make a good gift if you're stuck for ideas at Christmas.
