Wilko Arizona Spotlight Bow Polished Chrome Effect 4 Light
      ----------------------------------------------------------------------
Over the last few weeks we have been decorating our kitchen. Some years ago now we had a new fitted kitchen but as time has gone by some of the fittings have lost their sparkle, and as we applied new paint they started to appear shabby against the freshly painted walls. One of these fittings was the main central spotlight which was originally white plastic and had faded to a rather unpleasant cream. Thus began our search for something to replace it.

What I was really looking for was something which provided a bit more illumination. The original was fairly small - even though it did have three spots they did not light the kitchen as well as I liked, and at night we depended more on the strips above the work surfaces for added brightness. Normally we would have gone to B&Q to look for a replacement, but I had seen one I liked in Wilkinsons which actually had quite a good selection. So one Saturday we went to look at the available lights and were impressed by the display they had. Each one of the lights they had for sale on the shelves was clearly visible above the displays, where they had been fitted on the ceiling and were also switched on. I really liked this as it is often difficult to judge the look of the product from a picture on the box.

The Arizona light fitting has 4 spotlights which you can angle in any direction. It is a chrome effect which looks silver and is compatible with a dimmer if required. It takes R50 spotlight bulbs which are what our old fitting needed so it was a simple swap. It is also much longer than our original which was a round design- the Arizona is a longer rectangular shape allowing for the spots to sit next to each other in a neat row. It is this longer design which I feel allows for better illumination in every direction.

      Fitting Difficulties
      -------------------
Priced at £26 I felt this was reasonable but there is a point to make here about fitting. This does come with excellent instructions for fitting, but unless you are a qualified electrician or a very competent DIY expert, then I wouldn't recommend a purchase as this is not for the novice for several reasons. An inexperienced person will have to allow for the cost of an expert to fit this, and of course this will add a lot in terms of labour. Fortunately hubby can turn his hand to most jobs but this did present some difficulties.

The wiring is standard and this is good, but it has to be done in situ which means up at ceiling level. The light is also quite heavy, so you definitely need two people when it comes to screwing it into the rose as well as to hold it level during the wiring. It was simply impossible for my husband to support its weight and do the electrics and fitting at the same time. He was trying so hard not to involve me as having ME holding my hands above my head is a recipe for dizziness, but in the end it was mandatory to complete the task in a reasonable length of time.

Once secured the light looked lovely, and I was so pleased with the intensity of light which was so much better than my previous fitting. We angled the individual spots to illuminate all the various surfaces, and since this was fitted I have been enjoying the evenings so much more when I am preparing food now as the visibility is so much better.

It is possible to purchase this online though there is a delivery charge of £4.95, or you can subsequently collect in store for free. Of course Wilkinsons also deal with the major cash-back sites so you could benefit from this to offset some of the postal charges.

I quite like Wilkinsons as an alternative to B&Q for DIY and homeware products, finding them to have a small but good range of essentials, and their paint can be cheap too at times. The lighting department was much more extensive than I had expected, and I found the product I wanted quickly due to a tidy store with a superb overhead display of the lights they had.

      Final Thoughts
      ----------------------
In terms of quality the Arizona spotlight is excellent, and the price was very good value. It is difficult to fit, but more from the difficulty of the position than the wiring, but I would certainly have needed an electrician (maybe two!) if hubby hadn't be around. Mind you there would have been a lot less aggravation if I had employed one, as I did hear him mutter- he could have flown back and forward to Arizona in the time it was taking him to accomplish this alone! I'm glad I helped him as it looks lovely, and I am really enjoying my kitchen more with the fresh paint and new lighting. All in all I am really pleased with this light and would recommend it to anyone with the provisos I have mentioned.
