This 40mm Master Lock padlock is the first line of defence at the rear of our garden, we have two in operation, one is on the shed and the second locks in the top bolt on our garden gate, there is a bottom bolt action as well but the lower part of the gate has warped and the bolt is no longer remotely lined up otherwise we would have a padlock on that as well. The only issue with having more than one padlock of this variety is that the keys really do look very similar so you need to mark one of them to make it easy to spot the difference.

It is a brass bodies steel shackled lock and it has been in operation for about ten years now and apart from the odd dab of oil it has not needed any other care, both padlocks have remained rust free and operate smoothly and easily. They each came with two small keys and they are so easy to operate as the padlock simply clicks into place easily. The shakle has enough length to it to make it easy to manipulate and it slides easily through the locking loops on the bolt on the garden gate. The shed has a double loop bracket on it, to be honest the padlock is there more as a deterrent to make life more difficult as the shed would be pretty easy to break into but apart from the mower there is nothing of value in there.

Given that the locks were £10 for two they have been a good purchase, once the lock is secure there is a minimal amount of metal on the shakle exposed as most of it slides into the body of the lock, they will not prevent a determined criminal (after all they can climb over the fence) but they do provide a quick and easy locking system to secure something.
