Me and my boyfriend moved into our first home together earlier in the year. We live in a lovely little village and up until recently we'd had no problems.. until last month when were greeted with a gaping hole in the car door where someone had attempted to prise the lock off, then presumably given in and decided to scratch the windshield. Both of our next door neighbors have security cameras which cover their drives as well as a bit of ours, but we were unable to see who ever did it as they were out of shot.
I'm rubbish at technology and my boyfriend is not much better so rather than forking out over a hundred quid for a CCTV camera that we probably wouldn't know how to set up and operate, I decided to see if there were any fake CCTV cameras on the internet as I figured that it'd act as a deterant as long as it looked reasonably life-like. After a bit of browsing I came across this dummy CCTV camera on the Argos website. At £17.99 I felt that it'd be worth buying and I collected it from the store the same day.
The dummy CCTV camera comes in a basic cardboard box which has an easy to follow installation manual as well as the attatchments needed to fit it. It also comes with 2 x AA batteries, which are for the flashing light on the side of it. We found the camera very easy to fit - it took a matter of five minutes and we decided to put it above our garage so that it was easy for for passer by's to see, but out of reach so that no one could take it down if they were planning on doing something dodgy!
This is quite a bulky 'camera' which I see as an advantage as it is easy for people walking by to see. Despite being bulky it looks quite neat sat above our garage and as it's an off white colour rather than bright white it doesn't look cheap and plasticy. It is made of quite lightweight but well made plastic, and as it doesn't weigh a ton it is easier to fit while balancing on a ladder! I was concerned that it may look a little silly and obviously fake and 'stuck on', however it does look suprisingly realistic even close up, which I think is due to the flashing red light at the front which is especially handy at night.
The light makes it look like it's really recording and as it looks so life like I decided to explain to my neighbors that it was fake as I have it pointing straight onto our driveway and the street and I didn't want people to think that it was invading their privacy or anything, even though it's fake! The batteries are easy to change and we've changed ours twice in around six weeks, which isn't bad in my opinion. Overall, I recommend this fake CCTV camera as it is very lifelike and since we've had it up we've had no problems with our car being tampered with.
