~An easy way to secure wooden windows~
I had a number of Yale window locks fitted to a previous home which had wooden windows and window frames. Whilst the look of wooden windows is very nice I feel security should not be overlooked, which is why these simple Yale window locks were fitted at certain points so as to ensure that the windows remained safe and secure when I was away from home. These locks are very easy to fit in place and required minimal adjustment. As they come with all the parts required to fit them including the brass screws needed I feel they are a quick fit option to enhance home security.
I bought a number of these as they seemed just right to fit at the points on the wooden windows were they could be opened and closed, as I wanted to add a little extra security that could be easily attended too when I wanted to open a window. As these locks are very simple to operate I feel they are a good option as you simply use the key provided to unlock them, which then allows you to open your window as normal. To fix these they should be attached to the window section with the rest of the lock system placed on the frame with the use of the screws provided. Once in place you simply lock this set up via the handy key that then pulls the window towards the frame securely, which I feel is really easy to do.
The parts of the lock system seem to bite/ clench together once the key is used to tighten everything up and this ensures that the opening window and its frame pull together tightly and securely. I found that when these window locks were fitted, the effect of draughts from some but not all of the wooden window openers was slightly reduced on colder days and nights which I feel was rather an unexpected bonus. All that you need to use to fit these locks with is a screwdriver and a steady hand, which I feel makes these a good choice even for those who shy away from DIY jobs around the home due to lack of skill or experience. Once fitted windows do feel more securely closed.
~Price and product rating~
As there is no cutting or preparation of the surface area of the window or frame required, these locks can be fitted quite easily and quickly. Once in place they can be locked or unlocked with the key provided in a matter of seconds. I feel these are a good choice for use with wooden window frames and surrounds as they don't look too large or bulky when fitted and work well to help keep windows securely locked. The cost of these varies depending on how many you buy, but I would expect to pay between £15 and £20 per set of 4 locks depending on the colour and finish of the locks in question. I was more than happy with these brass finished locks and feel they were a good product, which is why I am giving them a 4 star product rating.
