“ Brand: Duchy / Dosage Form: Tincture „
When it comes to natural remedies I am rather a fan of them. All my life I've had health issues to which I have been prescribed medication for and most of the time that medication hasn't really helped me and it has simply been a short term solution. I'm not for one moment saying that there isn't a place for prescribed drugs but in the case of anti-depressants and the likes I find them very hit and miss indeed. This is why a while back now when I spotted this Duchy 'Herbals' Hyperi-Lift Tincture I thought I'd give it a go. Having low moods and mood swings brought on by an under active thyroid and an eating disorder plus living with a flatmate who is clinically depressed and a whole heap of other reasons to be down such as me gaining weight, struggling with bills (don't we all lol), my Mother being seriously ill and me splitting with my boyfriend I really hoped when I spotted this in Boots that it would help lift my bad mood a little! The Packaging: The bottle of tincture comes in a creamy coloured box with a yellow flower depicted on the front of it and then in black, orange and green writing we are told that it is Duchy Herbals Hyperi-Lift Tincture 'Hypericum Perforation' (St Johns' Wart) Flowering Tops 'A traditional herbal medicinal product used to relieve the symptoms of slightly low mood and mild anxiety, based on traditional use only' and that it is an oral liquid and that there is 50ml of the product. Other information on the packaging includes being told a bit more about the product and lots of precautions are given, the ingredients and directions for using it are stated and contact details for Duchy are given. Inside the box you get a leaflet again telling you much the same information as stated on the box and then you get a largish, partially see through brown bottle with the same in appearance to the box label on it, again listed much the same information is listed really. To the top of it there is a pinch to use black plastic/rubber piece that connects to a long see-though glass section that draws the liquid into it ready to use it. Its all very nice, classy looking and informative enough packaging that gives off the impression that this is a decent brand and its informative as it all needs to be without boggling the brain! A Bit About The Product According To The Information Given On The Packaging: Hypericum is a herbaceous perennial plant, commonly known as St John's Wort. It has a long standing tradition of use as a herbal remedy, dating back to the middle ages, and use by herbal practitioners is documented from the late 19th century onwards. Hypericum grows throughout Britain and Europe, and can be easily recognised by its bright and cheery five-petalled yellow flowers. The Tincture: This is only suitable for over 18's and and not suitable if you are pregnant, breastfeeding or on the pill or if you have been diagnosed with depression. This is just simply to buy off a shelf when you need a little pick me up and all you do with it is pop 2.5ml in a glass of water twice daily. There is a mark on the glass piece that you draw the liquid into letting you know that to there there is 2.5ml too so its easy to measure it out with very little fiddling about required. The liquid is a transparent and a dark brown colour and basically smells to me like a rich alcohol. Only containing the Hypericum and Ethanol this has no additives or anything other than those things within it at all. I simply get a glass of water and measure out 2.5ml of the liquid and give it a quick stir and it turns the water an orangy colour. It does taste bitter and it tastes of plants and I have to admit that I don't like the flavour of it one bit but once taken its job done! Results: I have to admit that I find this tincture really rather helpful in my life. I can take it twice a day and the effects after taking it are really felt. I feel calmer, more focused and with less anxiety and that my mind stop racing. Once taken I feel better for a good few hours and I know I'm not harming my body either with 'drugs'. I'm not saying take this and all is suddenly well with the world though but it is for me just a gentle helper whether thats because it is genuinely helpful or because I think that it helps...I don't know! None harmful to the majority of us this has a place in my medicine cabinet for ups and down days! Available in all good chemists etc (I buy mine in Boots) at about £8.00 a bottle.
