Nixe Palace Hotel Palma De Mallorca ... hotel has the perfect location, just a few minutes bus or taxi ride into Palma but with direct access to a lovely soft sandy beach. The area of Cala Millor where the hotel is is a bit run down but there are a few handy bars, restaurants and small supermarkets close by that are useful. The standard rooms face the road and are quite dark and noisy so the premium payable for a seaview room is definitely worth paying as the balconies have beautiful views of the bay and are much lighter. The hotel has recently been refurbished and the furnishings and decor is in neutral cream and brown shades, the exterior of the hotel is a striking 1930s design and is miles more attra... Praga Hotel Madrid ... our summer holiday this year we decided that the cheapest way for us to have a 4*, multi centre, 2 week break on a bit of a budget was to go completely independent and book all the individual components ourselves. So emerged the 2009 tour of Spain - calling at Barcelona, Madrid, Seville and finishing up on the Costa Del Sol for that real "brits abroad" holiday vibe. Madrid was stop 2 on our tour, and we chose the hotel in pretty much the same way as we picked all the other hotels for the trip - we did some bargain hunting. Le Christina Hotel (Bourges, France) ... independent 2-star hotel is affiliated with Logis and we stayed there in April 2009 for 5 nights while it was being refurbished, which was quite adventurous. The end result can be seen at the hotel s updated website: http://www.le-christina.com/ with 3D panoramic view of the rooms and the reception (cool!). The hotel is in 2 halves with room numbers under 200 at the front and those over 200 at the back. All rooms over 200 are now refurbished in a surprisingly tasteful brown and blue with soft lighting and credit card style electronic key access.
