... have just spent a night at the Palace Hotel in Manchester, on business. Regente Hotel Barcelona ... ve just come back from Barcelona, where a friend and I stayed at the Regente Hotel. We each had our own room, but neither of us had an outside window. We had paid in advance using a combination of air miles and cash, and so we really didn t have much power when it came to negotiation. My window looked into a dark and narrow well, and no daylight managed to filter into the room, which made it feel like a dungeon. The view was of metal grills and piping. From inside my room, and until I stepped outside the hotel, I had no way of knowing whether it was bright or dark, sunny or raining, or even what sort of temperature to expect. Iberotel Grand Sharm (Eygpt) ... Sharm Having decided on a trip to Sharm el Sheikh for the Easter break, the task fell to me to chose a hotel. Because we were going as a family, we wanted something with sufficient activities to keep everyone happy, and it also had to be of a relatively high standard as regards food and cleanliness. Fiesta Magamar Apartments (Mallorca) ... stayed in the Magamar quite a while back now and the reason we chose this property was that on our previous visit to Magaluf we had stayed in the Fiesta Jungla and our friends who booked last minute and couldn t get in our apartments had opted to stay here. We d seen it and knew it was OK and also the price was better than staying at the Jungla again. The apartments: The hotel is a rectangle shape with all the rooms around the edges and the lifts are in the middle of one side. If you think of how a prison is laid out with all the cells surrounding the edges and the edges overlooking the central section that is how it is designed. It sounds awful when I describe it lik...
