One of the great things about going away on holiday is the huge range of accomodation choices that you are faced with and the final choice you make can have a real impact upon the quality of your visit, I thought I would talk about some of the stranger or more memorable places that I have stayed rather than the more normal hotels, resorts or camp sites.

The first place was while travelling around Australia we visited a mining town called Coober Peedy (might have spelt it wrong) which was fundamentally an underground town due to the severe heat and the accomodation I stayed in was basically underground, it was a fascinating place and such was the rationing of water that even the shower was a meter.

While hitching around Portugal on the south coast we stopped in Sagres, as you get off the bus locals will approach offerring rooms in their homes to rent, most were dressed in black and old meaning that they were widows and despite the fact that neither of us could talk to each other it was one of the most hospitable places I have ever stayed and the little old lady who ran it Rosa was so nice and always smiling it has stayed in the memory longer than many of the places that I have visited.

In Egypt one time we stayed in Bedoiun tents in the middle of the dessert, this ws an amazing night sitting around a camp fire eating fod that I was not sure about the origin nor did I actually want to know either before curling up on a pile of rugsfor one of the best nights sleep I have ever had.
