Advantages: great hotel

Disadvantages: expensive, no tv's

The Alila Ubud is described as a luxurious boutique hotel, that is ideal for honeymooners. Well I can confirm that it is definitely luxurious and is definitely perfect for honeymooners!

The hotel is some 15 minutes outside of the bustling town of Ubud and it is not advisable to walk to it, as drivers in Bali are crazy! Plus there are no footpaths to the hotel as it is quite far away. Being far away means it is far from the road (and is very secluded as there is a big long driveway) and there is no noise and perfectly peaceful and relaxing.

One of the main selling points is the amazing swimming pool - they call it an infinity pool, as it looks like the water falls off the edge and there is no wall round the pool. It is a great bit of architecture and looks fantastic.

The hotel only has 56 rooms, so you are not fighting for space in the pool or for a sun lounger. It is really ideal for relaxing and having time on your own - perfect when on honeymoon!

There is an amzing view from the rooms, dining area (which is covered, but with no walls) and the pool area of a big valley. It is an idyllic setting.

There is not a massive amount to do in the hotel, but we did try out the spa, which was lovely, although much more expensive than the ones in the town. There are no televisions in the room as they want to create a perfect atmosphere and they provide you with an ipod that has relaxing music on it.

There is a room at the main reception area that has a TV and internet facilities if you need to have connect with the outside world!

The bed was massive, very comfortable and we had an outside shower, which was a nice quirky touch.

A couple got married when we were there, which meant we coudl not use the pool for a couple of hours, which at first was annoying, but then we looked on and the hotel had done a great job of creating an even more romantic atmosphere.

Once a week there is a free drinks reception for the guests to encourage you to meet other guests at the hotel and the staff. It was a good idea and we did meet another honeymooning couple, which was great, as we then did spend some time with them.

Our room cost about £250 a night, which included breakfast. It was a bit expensive, but definitely worth it for our honeymoon!

Summary: A must see hotel, must see location
