Advantages: The location - best value for money in this area

Disadvantages: Probably not for the five star tourist

I have to say that when we first started planning our Californian trip, Carmel was one of the hardest places to find reasonably priced accommodation, unless you're prepared to sleep in a tent, and I don't do tents.

So when we pitched up here I was pleasantly surprised. All the rooms are cabin-style and the overall layout is quite spacious with each two 'cabins' sharing a little decked verandah out front. The inside is rustic too with a small fireplace, fridge, and coffee maker and although you might find the carpets and some of the paintwork looking a little tired, I thought it added to the character.

The Resort Inn is well located and just a stone's throw from Ocean Boulevard which is at the heart of Carmel. Carmel is where you should stay if you want to travel down the beautiful 17 Mile Drive. (The Drive is a toll road but worth the money, it's a drive through a very swanky neighbourhood, along more of the beautiful Californian coast and it's the only way you'll get to see the Lone Cypress tree or the wonderful Pebble Beach).
The receptionist was the only staff we saw during our stay here. After she had checked us in, she told us how to get to our room and was generally very helpful. Generally speaking she was very helpful to us.

The next morning, we headed back across to the reception area where they had two little tables and some chairs to sit on while you eat your breakfast. It's not much to speak of, gooey danish pastries and all the fruit juice and coffee you could want which is par for the course, but considering the neighbourhood you'll be hard pressed to find anything better value in Carmel.

Overall, a little treasure in the country which invented chain motels, all of them identical. I would definitely recommend this place.

Summary: Nicer than the standard chain motels
