We stayed at the Ameritania in early October. We had a room with two double beds. The room size was fine. The room was nicely decorated and clean. The Ameritania's location is convenient to the theatre center and subway. The staff was friendly and helpful. We took advantage of the 24 hour coffee and tea bar. There is a nice, small bar in the lobby too. We had no problems with street noise from the fourth floor. The Ameritania is an older hotel. Thus, it has window air conditioners. When we were there, it was chilly outside, yet the air conditioner was still in the window. It was not possible to close its vent, so cold air was coming through into the room ... After we had booked our trip to New York I thought I would just check out some reviews of what the hotel was like that we were going to be staying at - the Ameritania. I was horrified to see so many bad reviews especially as there was me, my husband and my 2 year old daughter going. I rang the travel centre and asked for their honest opinion (fortunately it was done through Virgin so there were lots of people who had stayed there). They all said that the hotel wasn't anything flash but it was in a great location and clean. After hearing this I decided to stick with it and hope for the best. THE AMERITANIA HOTEL – NYC This is, by far, the worst hotel I have stayed in, in my entire life. First, I arrived with considerable baggage. An employee (by the way he was dressed I am not quite sure what he was supposed to be) stood in the doorway jabbering with another man. He did not offer to help me with my bags. So, I lugged them across the length of the lobby to the front desk. The girl behind the counter was rude. I took my key and lugged my bags across the lobby again to the elevator.
