THE AMERITANIA HOTEL – NYC This is, by far, the worst hotel I have stayed in, in my entire life. First, I arrived with considerable baggage. An employee (by the way he was dressed I am not quite sure what he was supposed to be) stood in the doorway jabbering with another man. He did not offer to help me with my bags. So, I lugged them across the length of the lobby to the front desk. The girl behind the counter was rude. I took my key and lugged my bags across the lobby again to the elevator. The employee walked up to me and said, “Sorry about that. You see, it’s busy today’. It wasn’t! And he still didn’t offer to help me. I stepped into an elevator with a dirty floor. Upstairs, I stepped out into a dreary, dark and dirty hallway. The flat, dark carpet appeared to not have been vacuumed for a considerable period of time. I lugged my bags down that hallway. Took a left, and lugged them down another hallway to my room at the very end. Across from my room, there was a stairway door. It was propped open with a bucket and a mop. (Hello! Security!). I entered my room and almost died. It was dark with dirty carpet and the bare necessities --- a bed, a nightstand and a TV. In the bathroom, roach sticky paper was sticking out from under the sink. The bathtub was stained at the bottom. This was nothing compared to the bed. I pulled down the thin, scratchy bedspread to find a filthy, stained pillowcase. Immediately, I rang the front desk. I was told they might send someone up with a pillowcase, but they were busy, you know? The air conditioner was broken. So, I opened the window. This was a mistake. Garbage was piled down on the ground floor below my 3rd story window and I could not stand the stench. I had dinner reservations. I was so disgusted I got dressed and left. I stayed out most of the evening because I dreaded going back to that room. When I did return, the pillowcase was the same. I pulled the covers d
own to discover dirty sheets. I rang the front desk again. The girl said someone had changed the bed while I was out and they weren’t doing it again. I sat on the edge of the bed and watched TV. I was afraid to lie down. This room literally made me itch! I didn’t get any sleep all night and I had to travel the next day. I filled out the guest comment card. The next morning, I brought it down to the front desk and told the girl just what I thought of their hotel. She said, “we can’t help it if some people are fussy”. FUSSY! Well, excuse me for expecting too much --- like cleanliness. When I arrived home, I realized I had left a souvenir (a museum poster) in the room. I called the AMERITANIA HOTEL and asked them to send it to me. They told me they didn’t find it when they cleaned the room. This didn’t surprise me. Cleaned the room? I assume the next victim found it. No one from the AMERITANIA HOTEL ever contacted me about my comments on the guest card. I would not stay in this hotel again if they paid me! TRAVELERS BEWARE!

- 16/08/01 heh heh! Sorry, but you tell it so well I can't help laughing. I had a similar experience in London - big, touristy cities are the worst. they know that if you don't want the room, plenty of others do. How come you were in this hotel anyway, was it recommended to you? I'd be interested to hear. Great op - Cheers, karen |

- 16/08/01 Awwww I felt so sorry for you reading the part about you being too scared to lie down in the bed....what a horrible night you must have had. Don't people get it, if they can just be bothered with cleanliness and customer service it would probably boost their numbers and reputation ?? Oh I don't know.....
Sorry you had to go through this, luckily it was for only one night and not longer....
Thanks PP :~) |
