I went to Amsterdam with my mother when I was about fourteen. One afternoon we decided to get a taxi out to the Amstel Hotel for a drink and a snack. Although my mother was dressed fairly smartly, I was wearing jeans and trainers and as soon as we stepped in the door from the wind and the rain, the man from behind the consierge desk ran over to us and rudely told me that I wcould not come in because I was not dressed appropriately. The rest of Amsterdam is so friendly and inviting, but this little incident really spoiled my trip, it was so unnecessary, and was not dealt with in the sort of way that a five star hotel should deal with these sort of problems. ... I have stayed at the botel a couple of times now, it is good value, but looking rather dated. The botel doesnt actually look that much like a boat, more like a floating box which is moored closely in a corner. One time I stayed it was over the new year (which I would recommend!) It was so cold the window froze open whilst I was out and I was unable to defrost it it close it again! On the corner near the botel a van would park up every night and distribute clean needles to junkies, you where never too sure who you might bump into whilst walking back to the botel. This may have moved somewhere else by now. Overall a good place to stay if on a budget. ... Read the complete review

If you going on a visit to Amsterdam this hotel is amust if you are looking for something different. As the name suggests this hotel is actually a floating boat on the river Amstell. It is idally situated for seeing all the sights of Amsterdam, it is only about 500 yards from the railway station. All rooms are on suite and have cable tv and if you request it you can have a river view. I highly recommmend this very relaxing watching the ducks swim by!! All rooms are clean and comfortable and the hotel as its own bar. When i stayed i was able to get 3 nights for the price of 2 so it is worth asking if they have any deals on. ...
