We visited 'Astor on the park' in may 2006. We were on a tight budget for the 5 day trip and were looking for somewhere cheap yet cheerful. We understood after doing our research that the further away from the centre we stayed the cheaper it would be. We took a taxi from Newark airport (which i do not recommend unless you want to get stumped by all the toll bridge charges) But we did get dropped off right outside the hotel. For such a cheap hotel, we really didn't expect to see a doorman waiting for us on our arrival. He welcomed us in and took our bags. Me and my partner went to New York for a couple of nights on our way to Vegas, in February. We selected the hotel due to its affordability, and the fact that it was located near central park. We arrived at the airport, and upon getting the bus, we asked what was the nearest stop to central park. To our surprise, they didn't know what we were on about, so they dropped us off near the library, i believe near 6th avenue, not far from Bryant Park. We spent over an hour walking around, asking for directions to central park, figuring that once we got there, we would be able to find the hotel.
