... have just stayed in Surfside coogee for a week. This is quite a small hostel, in the suburb of coogee in sydney. Its above mcdonalds and theres loads of cafes and restuarants around so you dont need to worry about going hungry. Hotel Powderhorn Chateau (Ruapehu, New Zealand) ... Powderhorn Chateau is a luxury hotel located on the outskirts of a small skiing town called Ohakune, about half a day s drive north of Wellington. If you are driving through the area, I strongly recommend it as a place to stay. We came here in April 2009, which is Autumn in New Zealand and not ski season. ===The price=== Surprisingly enough for a luxury hotel, the price is affordable by UK standards (even given the current terrible exchange rates), because New Zealand is generally a lot cheaper. Old Sydney Holiday Inn ... here for 2 nights in April. There are mixed reviews on the Holiday Inn and I was a bit nervous about staying here. Upon arriving early, the hotel stored our bags and offered to ring me when the room was ready. I politely asked if we could have a room with a view, but this was not expected as we hadn t paid extra for this and our room was a cheap £60 twin. When we opened our door, nothing could prepare us for the view, we were literally in front of the opera house. Some of the furnishings were a bit dated in the room, as were the fittings in the bathroom but it was clean and the surrounding area more than made up for this. Also, the rooms are massive! Hyatt Regency Auckland ... in the leafy, hilly University District of Auckland, the Hyatt served as our first New Zealand accommodation. In our fog of jetlag from flying from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia the night before, finding the Hyatt became quite annoying as one-way streets hindered a few turns. Upon check-in we were asked, "Would you like a view of the harbour or a view of the Sky Tower?" Tough choice since Auckland is surrounded by such beautiful sights. We chose the harbour view since the Sky Tower was on our itinerary for one evening anyway. Lugging our bags upstairs in a state of lethargy, we eyed the bed and gave each other a nod.
