Bangkok Palace Thai Restaurant - Whitley Bay

12 Park Avenue
Whitley Bay, NE26 1DG

Nobody has reviewed this place yet so I though I would be the first. If you are in or around Whitley Bay and looking for somewhere to eat, you should definitely check this place out.

It is small and could easily be missed. It is located beside the Post Office and you have to go upstairs, once you do, there is a small restaurant (no bigger than my living room!) and bar. We found it by accident and being fans of thai food, decided to try it out. I am so glad that we did. We now eat there whenever we can and get take-away sometimes too.

Because it is so small, there is a great intimate feel and the staff are lovely. Apart from the owner, the staff are mainly thai girls who are over here studying for PHDs (I mention this in the hope that you will tip generously, the service is excellent, the girls are so nice and they work incredibly hard, imagine studying for a PHD in a foreign country and working all night too!) and the food is freshly cooked there and then (I know this as I have special dietry requirements and they are happy to cater to these every time).

The food itself is fantastic, fresh, bursting with flavour and seasonal ingredients. I am a huge curry fan so tend to have thai red, green or jungle curry. My other half likes the pad thai or sometimes fish. We have managed to work our way through a lot of the menu and never been disappointed with anything. If you go, please try the chicken hot and sour soup, it is the best I have ever tasted.

The prices are very competitive too and they currently do a "happy hour" with dishes costing only £3.50 between 5.30pm. There is also a "Sunday special" whereby you buy one main course and get another free.

The Bangkok Palace is a hidden gem, there is another thai restaurant in Whitley Bay which we tried once (and were a little disappointed with) and found it just wasn't up to the standard we had come to expect. Now, we aim to eat here as often as possible, I really recommend that you do too, you won't be disappointed!

If you haven't tried thai food before, then why not use the "happy hour" as an excuse to sample some of the menu, the staff are delighted to talk you through all the foods and will pass any requirements onto the chef. Oh and don't forget to wash it down with a nice cold Singha beer!

I have attached the website below, so you can check this place out, you will be glad that you did!

Summary: A hidden gem, try it as soon as you can!
