First class hotel in a great location - highly recommended! (Barcelona Universal Hotel)

I booked this hotel after reading good reivews for a city break in May 2006, and I was not disappointed.

We stayed for 3 nights and could not find fault with the hotel. The rooms are attractive, very spacious, clean, light and fully air conditioned. The bed was a very supportive and comfortable super kingsize. There was plenty of wardrobe space, the bathroom was large and spotlessly clean and we found the staff friendly and helpful at all times.

The location of the hotel, in my opinion was ideal. Situated partway up the Para.lel road it was only a 5-10 minute stroll down to the lovely Port Vell area and the same distance to La Rambla. There are a wide variety of restaurants all within a couple of kilometres walk from the hotel and examples of stunning contemporary architecture all around; as close as directly across the road from the hotel.

The small rooftop swimming pool was really lovely and although the temperature was in the mid thirties when we visited, we were able to swim in relative peace and were also able to find a free sun lounger.

The gym (as with all hotel gyms) was pretty basic, but there was enough to keep you occupied for a half hour, though I noted there was no running machine.

If we return to Barcelona, we will definitely stay at Hotel Barcelona Universal again and would highly recommend it to anyone.
