Advantages: English speaking staff, good food and well priced
Disadvantages: On the 5th floor - there is a lift
I recently went to Budapest with a friend using cheap Ryanair flights. I found the Baross Hotel using the hostel finder on the Ryaniar website and decided to book it as it seemed reasonable.
Booked on line and recieved a confirmation via email which i had to print out as this had our booking number on which I had to show at reception.
We arrived at the hotel at 10pm, first instinct was that it didnt seem in a very good area and wasnt easy to locate. Had to go through a door and up a lift to the 5th floor, this wasnt easy to figure out and wasnt well explained on the paperwork or at the building. The other floors are offices and residential homes.
Walked into the reception, very warm and open. The receptionist spoke very good English, checked us in and showed us to our room and explained when Breakfast was.
The room was lovely. Basic, clean but nice. The room's seem llike attic rooms with sky lights.
Room comprised of two single beds, a dressing table, small table and chairs, television and mini bar, wardrobe. The ensuit bathroom had a WC, sink and Shower cubicle - which was very powerful.
Breakfast
Breakfast was served between 7am and 11am, so no need to worry about getting up really early.
The breakfast was self service continental style, various breads, cheeses, pastrys, cereal, yoghurts and hot and cold drinks. All good quality and sets you up for the day.
The staff
Very friendly and helpful, pointed us in the right direction on how to get into the city, where the nearest bus and metro stations were.
They even booked our transfer back to the airport for us and on the day we were due to leave Budapest we were not flying until 8pm at night and they offered us to store our bags in there baggage room for free so that we had the day to walk around and not worry about baggage.
Other services:-
24 hour reception
Internet terminal
Central safe
Fax and photocopy facilities
Laundry service
Car rental
Airport transfer and taxi service
Sightseeing and cultural programmes
Beauty-parlour
Whilst i was there i did not see the beauty parlour. we did go in January and the hotel was very empty.
Prices
The price depends on the time of year and obviously the exchange rate. I paid a deposit on the internet and the rest on departure on my credit card. They asked which currency and i explained GBP and they said would charge it in the Hungarian Forint as it wouldnt cost as much due to the exchange rate!
The accommodation worked out about £40 a night for two people, that includes breakfast. Well worth the money.
So if your going to Budapest and looking for some accommodation that isn't far from the City centre then this is the place.
Quality accommodation, good food, English speaking reception staff and all very friendly.
Summary: Easy access to the city centre, well priced.
