This review is of the Bayview Hotel Melaka, the second hotel we stayed at during our recent visit to Malaysia.

We travelled by bus from Kuala Lumpur to Melaka, buses leave around every 30 minutes or so and we were told it would take 2.30 hours but in reality we arrived in just under 2 hours.

Melaka Sentral the main station is a little way out of the main town at around 5KM's, but there is a bus that will take you into the town and handily the Bayview Hotel is on this bus route so the transit was pretty easy.

The hotel is located on the main road that you can follow on foot for about 10 minutes to get to most places of interest for tourists, nearby there are two small supermarkets and a few restaurants.

Bayview offers several room types:

Superior and Deluxe rooms,
Studio, Junior and Presidential Suites.

We stayed one night in a superior room and paid 230 MYR (38 GBP).

The lobby of the hotel is very large and had a quiet feel about it. It has a very high ceiling and is glass fronted with several overly large glass double doors. Directly in front of you are 2 pairs of elevators facing each other, the reception desk is just around the corner. The lobby also has a lot of seating as well as a coffee shop and lounge area. Check is was straightforward and uneventful.

The room itself was well laid out and typical of an International class hotel, with bathroom immediately to the left with a fitted wardrobe arrangement opposite it. The rooms had a large and comfortable double bed with bedside tables, opposite was a dressing table. Further towards the window was a two seater sofa, 2 chairs and a small table. Everything was clean and in working order. The view from the window was out to sea in the distant view.

The room had a safe supplied and a nice touch was to also include an iron and ironing board in the room. A fairly old TV was in the corner and as I have discovered in many Malaysian hotels it did not offer a range of International programmes. The room also had a small fridge, this would only be stocked as a mini bar on request.

The bathroom was fairly standard and clean, a bath with shower over, WC, wash hand basin and retractable clothes line. Overall the room was clean and functional.

The hotel also has a nighclub/bar on the premises but we visited on a Monday when it was closed, there is also a Karaoke bar which again was closed.

We visited the outdoor swimming pool and found it to be quite a pleasant area with seating and a well maintained pool, there was a Jacuzzi also but this was not operating. Overlooking the outdoor pool is a well equipped gym.

Included in our room price was a hot buffet breakfast, this was ok but nothing special. The range was quite small.

The main guests of the hotel appeared to be business people who were there to make use of the conferencing facilities at the hotel.

Overall I found this hotel fine but unremarkable. The only real negative comment I would make is that I wanted to use the Internet to check something and unless you have your own laptop the hotel had no facilities for me to do this. It was not to much of a problem though as I found an Internet café a few minutes walk away.
