Advantages: Too many to list, its just 6* luxury
Disadvantages: Be careful- the mini bar and hamper in the room are all chargeable
We stayed at the 6 Star Bellagio in a "Deluxe" Suite for 4 nights In April 2009.
At first arrival, the Taxi dropped us at the North Entrance to the Bellagio which resulted in a 10 minute walk through the Hotel just to get to the Lobby area to check in. The Hotel is enormous- there are a series of travellator walkways outside the hotel just to take you near the road outside! And the Bellagio Fountains are a sight you just HAVE to see.
We could have easily stayed inside the hotel for the entire holiday- there are number of bars from glitzy wine bars to a nightclub, classy restaurants often owned by named chefs- sometimes you need a reservation for a table, at others you will have to queue. There is an Art Gallery (there was an Andy Warhol exhibition on), a few shops, an ice cream parlour and a master chocolatier deli featuring a world famous chocolate sculpture fountain. There are also a few newsagent type shops for newspapers and sweets but they are pricey. Drinks are pricey, the casino is pricey ($25 minimum bet on most tables and $100 on others etc, for blackjack which will be over in one or two hands).
There is a lot to do in the hotel and there are several pools if the weather is decent. There are approximately 6 elevators- some go to different floors and there are telephones with notepads and pens beside them on all floors in the corridors which I thought was a nice touch.
The hotel is air conditioned and the rooms are individually air conditioned so you have control of the temperature. Our room had two queen sized beds and a huge marble bathroom with walk in shower. The TV was in a cupboard and rolled out and there was a safe, a wardrobe which lighted from inside when you opened the door and an ironing board. The curtains and netting at the windows was operated by a switch from next to the bed.
The only drawback was there was a large box next to the TV with bottled water, confectionery, crisps, an internet cable, chocolate poker chips, hotel branded goods which we soon realised was an extention of the mini bar. If we moved anything in the box, it is likely we would be charged for it. There is a fully stocked mini bar in the room too- which we didn't even go near!
A maid came into the room to turn down the beds, turn the TV on and close the curtains in the early evening (to our surprise) then again the clean the room in the morning. The hotel did provide free shampoo, conditioner, mouthwash, soap and a mini vanity kit (one cotton wool ball, one mini emery board, one cotton bud) in the bathroom. The maid would clean the bathroom daily and place all our toilettries onto a small towel which again, was a level of service you will probably only see in a 6 star hotel.
Overall our time in the Bellagio was breathtaking. When we checked in we overheard a guy settling a $9,000 room service bill and saying he had only been there for 2 days- hence we were VERY careful not to go near the mini bar! If you can afford it, it wouldnt be a concern, but for those of us who visit the Bellagio as a once in a lifetime occasion/ event we have to be aware its a 6 star hotel.
Its the small things which make it a 6* hotel without doubt- the boutiques and calibre of the restaurants and the master chocolatier, the maids tidying our toilettries and turning the bedding down, the remote control curtains and being handed towels as you approach the pool area. You are left with the impression if you need anything, all you need to do is click your fingers and someone will magically appear.
Summary: once in a lifetime treat...
