Belsfield Hotel Windermere (Belsfield Hotel Windermere)

Advantages: Good Service, Good food & Drink, Swimming Pool & Sauna Disadvantages: Poor Condition of Building, Expensive I stayed at this hotel last month (June 2009). Spectacular views over Lake Windermere and set in beautiful grounds close to all the local attractions, this hotel looked promising. The staff were welcoming and their service and help was impeccable. The standard double room in which I stayed was clean and well equiped. The rest of the hotel was generally clean too, including the swimming pool and sauna. The food & drink on offer was very enjoyable, and reasonably well priced, I can fully recommend the full English breakfast. The bar is very well stocked and a comfortable lounge with an inviting open fire is also provided. The condition of the hotels building fabric itself though, both externally and internally was quite poor and that let the hotel down somewhat. For example all the upper timber floors creek and all the carperts and wallpaper need to be replaced. A full re-decoration of the hotel throughout is also required. Generally the hotel is in need of a re-vamp. At £100 a night for an en-suite double room with no view at the back of the hotel and with no breakfast included it's expensive too. It felt more like a £60-£70 a night hotel in my opinion. Summary: There are lots of better places to stay for less money in the Lake District |
