The Best Western Hotel Ypsilon is located just outside the centre of Essen, and a short taxi ride from Dusseldorf airport.

I hve recently stayed in this hotel as I was working in Essen for a couple of days and this is the hotel thar I was booked into. It is a four star hotel, however I do feel that it does lack certain qualities to be given this status. Although it is a really nice hotel, there could be a lot of imprivements however it is a hotel that must only get business from passing business people working at the exhibition arena in the centre of Essen.

Reception

When arriving at the Ypsilon you walk into a relatively small but pleasant reception area, with a couple of leather seats in a waiting area and quite a large reception desk. My first impression was that the hotel looked quite modern and my first instinct were that I was going to enjoy my stay there. Checking in was simple, my room had already been paid for and a card had been put on my room for expenses. The staff were very friendly and helpfully directed me to the ways in which I could locate my room.

Room

On entering my room, I was surprised at how spacious it was, however when first entering it did have its downfalls which hit you straight away. I had a double room, with single occupancy. The bed itself had two singles pushed together however to ensure it was a single room the only provided a single duvet cover on the bed, which when sleeping it the bed made it a bit difficult as I often found myself rolling over the other bed and having no covers at all. The bed also only had one pillow which was too soft, however if you called Room Service they would deliver more pillows to you. The room also didn't have any tea and coffee making facilities. Maybe this is something that is not offered in Germany however I missed having a brew first thing in the morning. The room did have a television in it however only had one English Speaking channel CNN, which I had on as background noise, but nothing else. In the bathroom, there was only a shower, I am a bath person and missed this a lot, its easier for men to shower, however females, its a long process.

Room Service

I ate in the room a couple of nights and the menu for room service wasn't great but okay. The food came to my room withi 10 minutes and I have got to say was very good to say the least. It was that good that I only ever intended to have food one night in the room, but I ended up ordering a couple of times.

Restaurant

Breakfast as srved in the restaurant and they served everything for everyones tastes, continental breakfats, cereals, fruit, yogurt, croissants, pain au chocolats, cooked meats and cheese with a selection of breads, and then for us English, Sausage, Bacon, Boiled and Scrambled eggs and upon request you could have an omelette cooked with whatever you wanted in it. The food tasted good and I was very satisfied with it.

In general the hotel was quite good, I wasn't in there that long but would recommend if you are passing through Essen.
