Advantages: Great location
Disadvantages: Pool not heated properly so may be a problem in cooler weather
Me and my partner had made the decision to get married abroad and we finally settled on Florida and once we had decided this we needed to find a location. We thought it would be much easier to be married at the hotel we were staying in. So we had a look at a Virgin Weddings brochure and chose the Best Western Lake Buena Vista. The price was very reasonable for both the wedding ceremony and also the actual holiday.
The hotel itself is situated very near to Downtown Disney it is about a 10 minute slow walk. In the immediate area there are other hotels and if you walk in the opposite direction to Downtown Disney you end up at the Crossroads shopping and dining area. Here you will find TGI Fridays and a few bars and a supermarket. Again the walk to this area is around 10 mins or less.
Check in was fairly painless but it did take slightly longer than at other hotels I think this was down to a problem they had with the key cards so we may have just been unlucky. Our luggage was taken up to our rooms promptly.
You are charged a fee to take advantage of the free transportation and internet access, however because we booked as a package Virgin Holidays included this fee in with the holiday so we got no surprise fee.
We had a room with two double beds which have to be the most comfortable beds I have ever slept in. So for this alone I would recommend it!
The room had the usual things colour television, table and chairs etc. The bathroom was quite small but very clean and tidy.
We had fresh soap and towels daily and the room was cleaned very well also.
Our view from the balcony was lovely and we could see the giant golf ball (as I call it) at Epcot so we also caught the firework display from the comfort of our hotel room . Another thing we could see was the gazebo where we would be getting married.
The hotel has a heated pool which is a fair size and to be honest was never completely busy as most people come to Florida for the Disney parks. I'm not quite sure if I would say it was heated very well. We went in March when the weather is normally pretty hot so there was no need for a warm pool.
Around the pool were plenty of sun loungers and there were always plenty of fresh towels at the pool hut, the towels were replenished as soon as it got to the last few.
There is also a smaller kid's pool which was a perfect size for children, if you walk up some steps there is a sun deck and at the side is a bar where I believe you can also get snacks.
The hotel offers complimentary on-site transportation from the hotel to Walt Disney WorldŽ Theme Parks, to the Orlando Premium Outlet Stores and to the Lake Buena Vista Factory Outlets. These are fairly regular at around every half an hour. The buses are clean and have air conditioning which help after a long day in one of the theme parks.
There is also a High Speed Wireless Internet access which is available throughout the hotel including the pool although obviously not at it's strongest.
Just off from reception there is a small cafe type area where you can buy sandwiches, muffins, cookies and coffee etc. If you carry on walking there is also the main restaurant which is called the Trader's Island Grill they serve a buffet breakfast which has plenty of choice on offer. The breakfast is available from 7am to 11am. They also open from 5pm to 11pm for evening meals they serve traditional american meals and also carribean style cuisine.
There is also a fitness center situated in the hotel but I never had the chance to use it ( in other words couldn't be bothered)
Lastly and the most important bit of the holiday was the wedding in the hotel. The walkway to the gazebo is slightly longer than I would have liked as it only added to my nerves. The gazebo which is in the hotels grounds, was decorated with flowers and the area had been perfectly looked after. It is in a lovely setting and very intimate but could be classed as being situated too near the pool. Luckily for us the poolside was deserted on our big day so no noise or disturbances at all.
Our wedding went perfectly and I would definitely recommend this hotel as a wedding venue aswell as a holiday destination.
