Advantages: Amazing breakfasts, nice rooms, good facilities, great location

Disadvantages: One po-faced waitress. That's all.

We took the family to Prague for five nights in August this year and I can recommend the hotel we stayed in, the K&K Central (on Hybernska, close to the Municipal House).

The interior is all gorgeous Art Nouveau with modern additions (such as the glass-sided conference room beneath the restaurant); the rooms are excellent, with classy fittings in the bathrooms; the breakfasts (including Champagne) are sumptuous; the staff are helpful and (mostly) friendly; there’s free internet access (two PCs in reception and another two in the business centre to the rear); there’s a gym in the basement; the location could hardly be better. I’d definitely stay there again.

The cost of two rooms - one double and another for three - for five nights came to about 31,500 Czech crowns (31,687 once a couple of drinks from the minibar had been added), which was less than we'd expected. At current exchange rates that's just over 750 pounds sterling.

Note that in the Czech Republic hotels decide themselves how many stars they deserve. In the UK this would definitely merit four stars.
