      Thai Luxury!

Location The Beachcomber Hotel is located in the middle of Chaweng Beach in Ko Samui. This hotel has been given a three star rating which I feel it more than deserves. The hotel is set within tropical gardens, with the restaurant and swimming pool leading straight onto Chaweng Beach. The hotel has 58 rooms which are spread out across three stories. There are also more expensive rooms which come in Thai style villas which have their own terrace, these rooms are located right near the beach. The Beachcomber Hotel has a sister hotel called The Blue Lagoon which is on the other side of Chaweng Beach, there is a free shuttle bus which runs between the two hotels. As Ko Samui is a fairly small island, we were pleased to find that out hotel was only a ten minute taxi ride away from the airport. Travel Time from The UK We flew from London Gatwick to Bangkok, via Doha. To get to Bangkok, it took us 2 six and a half hour flights. From Bangkok, you can fly directly to Ko Samui which takes a further 45 minutes. Price We paid £980 per person for three nights in Bangkok and eight nights in Ko Samui which I found to be fairly reasonable considering the flights are long haul. We stayed at the Beachcomber hotel on a bed and breakfast basis. Arrival And Check In We were greeted by the very friendly staff once our taxi arrived at the hotel. We noticed that in the main reception, a welcome board had been put up with our names on which we thought was a lovely touch. The staff were only to keen to carry your luggage for you and welcome you to Ko Samui. The staff at the reception desk were very friendly and efficient and we were checked in within minutes and escorted to our room where we were shown around. The Staff All the staff at the hotel exceeded our expectations. They were extremely helpful and very well mannered. They looked very smart in their traditional Thai uniforms. They all speak a high level of English so there is no language barrier. The staff in the restaurant and reception were so friendly and very personal, always remembering our names and asking us if we enjoyed our various trips when we returned to the hotel in the evening. The Room When we arrived in our room, my first thought was 'Wow'. It really was stunning. Our room was classed as a double but inside, it was large, with two double beds and lots of furnishings. The beds were large (as all Thai beds seem to be) with lovely clean smelling bed sheets which were white and blue. Each bed had four plump pillows which were so comfortable. In the room, there was a TV with certain satellite channels including an in house movie channel, 2 large wardrobes, a chest of drawers, a fully stocked fridge, a safe, a hairdryer and a remote controlled air conditioning unit. The bathroom was clean and spacious and inside, there was a full length bath and a power shower. There was a huge mirror in the bathroom which overlooked 'his and hers' sinks. There was more than enough room by the sinks to store all the toiletries that we had taken with us. We were provided with fresh, clean towels every day and these were left on the towel rail in the bathroom. Also in the room, we were given a large beach bag which had two beach towels inside, these were changed every day. Our room had a great little air conditioning unit which also had a remote control! I was pleased to see that the air conditioning unit was fairly quiet when switched on as in some other hotels, the air con can be quite noisy. We found the air con was very useful during early evening when we came in from the pool and needed to cool down. Each room has a balcony or a terrace and I should imagine that most room have a scenic view, we were on the ground floor and overlooked the tropical gardens which made a lovely setting.. There are sliding patio doors which lead out to the balcony, also meaning that plenty of light was let into the room. Our balcony was furnished with a small table, 2 chairs and also a large clothes airer which was useful for hanging our swimming gear out to dry. The rooms are cleaned to a very high standard and towels and bed sheets replaced every day. There is a card in your room which you can leave on the bed if you don't think your sheets needs changing, this helps to keep Ko Samui's water clean from detergents so we made sure our sheets were not changed every day. Restaurant There is a beachside restaurant where breakfast, lunch and dinner is served. We stayed at this hotel on a bed and breakfast basis and the breakfast was amazing, with such a selection of items to pick from. To give a brief description of the menu, there were yogurts, cereals, toast, a selection of meats and cheeses, beans, tomatoes, sausages and also a Chef's station where you could have items such as omelettes and friend eggs cooked freshly and to perfection. There was also a large area where you could chose from a selection of fruit such as pineapple. Dragon fruit, passion fruit etc. There is a selection of fresh fruit juices to choose from and tea and coffee is brought to the table by the waitresses. The Restaurant is located right on the edge of Chaweng Beach and from here you can enjoy the panoramic views. We didn't actually eat our evening dinner at the hotel but this was only because there was such a wide choice of food outside the hotel. We did look at the menu for the hotel and found the selection to be reasonable, with menu items such as fresh seafood as well as European and Thai specialties. Inside the restaurant, there is a small bar which serves a great selection of cocktails as well as local and international brands of alcohol. We quite often popped down here for a drink before we went to bed and found that the prices for the cocktails were very reasonable, about £1.50 a drink which we thought was fair for a hotel. In the evening, there is live entertainment and one of my favourite acts that we saw was a man and a woman who played ands sang live. This sort of entertainment really fitted in well to the setting and helped guests to relax. The Beach The Beachcomber Hotel actually has its own private section of Chaweng Beach although this is quite small and can probably only fit around thirty sun loungers on it. Having said that, we never had a problem getting a lounger as there were always plenty available. The sun loungers provided have soft mattresses on then and are comfortable. The beach is beautiful but a little bit too busy for my liking and the jet skies could be noisy at times. The sand is bright white and the water a clear blue colour. The water was also nice and calm with no undercurrents meaning it was lovely to take a dip in. Watersports such as windsurfing, waterskiing, canoeing, and snorkelling are all available from the beach. Swimming Pool There is a large swimming pool which is located inside the tropical gardens meaning there is plenty of sun loungers with shade which we found useful as often the temperature was so hot, that it was actually nice to lay in the shade and still get a tan. The pool was large with a Jacuzzi in one end. The Jacuzzi could be operated by a button on a nearby post. The swimming pool was surrounded by plenty of sun loungers, which again had soft mattresses on them. The restaurant is located about a 30 second walk from the pool and you can order drinks from here and have them brought to you by the pool which was a nice touch. In Conclusion I would certainly recommend this hotel to anyone wishing to visit Ko Samui. It is in a great location, near to the airport and right in the middle of the main town of Ko Samui where there are many restaurants and shops to look at. The facilities are clean and modern and certainly meet the expectations you would have of a 3* hotel. The staff were absolutely faultless and really added that extra special touch to our stay.
