Advantages: Great location, Free shuttle buses to Central

Disadvantages: A little more expensive than other hotels

The City Garden hotel is situated at the edge of the Causeway Bay district in
North Point, Hong Kong Island. Minutes from Victoria Park, the Central Business
District, Wan Chai and the Conference and Exhibition Centre, the hotel is a
short distance from the Fortress Hill MTR station(exit the station, turn right
and walk for 2-3 minutes(take special note of the Park 'n' Shop convenience
store as you'll find a veritable treasure trove of inexpensive food and drink
inside). Cross the road just past the tram stops and walk up Electric Road, the
hotel is on your right).

I stayed at the City Garden in August of last year after travelling to Hong Kong
on the Cathay Pacific 'Super City' package. It's perhaps not the cheapest option
for the independent traveller-standard twin/double rooms cost HK$580 per
night(just over fifty pounds)-but I would recommend the hotel on the grounds of
its terrific location. Further, I would gladly pay a little extra for my
accomodation in order to be able to ride the scenic tram route everyday. The
trams may be a little rickety, indeed I've heard that they're going to be phased
out in favour of sleeker modern alternatives by 2004, but, for a mere HK$1.20
per journey(under forty pence), I'd willingly trade a little comfort for a lot
of character and a leisurely ride past the sights of Hong Kong island.

The hotel itself is rated at three stars. As far as amenities go, I'd have to
admit that the rooms are perhaps a little outdated in terms of facilities.
However, they're spacious, have satellite television and, great news for
families, extra beds can be accomodated in all categories. "Special Rates" are
currently being offered at www.holidaycity.com/city-gdns-hongkong/ and
www.asiatravel.com/hongkong/citygarden, while further information can be found
at the hotel's own website-www.city
garden.co.hk(which features a virtual tour of the rooms and facilities)-or by emailing info@citygarden.com.hk.

After spending five days in Hong Kong I'd highly recommend a trip there to
anybody. The four nights I spent at the City Garden Hotel, combined with a few
dips in the hotel pool, were extremely conducive to my enjoyment of holiday. If
you're looking for comfortable accomodation that's close to the action then the
City Garden will be right up your street.
