Aegean apartments

With only a couple of weeks of my holiday left and the rest frittered away, himself and I decided to book a cheap and cheerful week away, and after looking at various options Turkey seemed the best value. We had been to altinkum before and again, it served a secondary purpose because both teenage sons had were there and it was quite possible they were running out of money.
We booked the Aegean apartments and whilst it was advertised as a five star complex, we were not expecting anything especially wonderful because a week self catering cost only just more than £300 each.
After a delayed flight and travelling through the night, the coach drove down what seemed like a dirt track but with lots of other apartments lining the streets and left us at the gates of the apartments. So far so good, although it was 6 am and we were tired, it did look very well maintained and clean, and a member of staff quickly took us to the apartment.
There was a lift but because our apartment was only on the first floor, we opted to walk, and when the man gave us our key we were free to have a look around The apartment itself was much much better than we had expected and actually looked like the photos on the website. The hallway led to the shower room which had the usual toilet and basin but also a large corner shower which really did work properly, and plenty of storage cupboards
Bedroom one had a double bed, large wardrobes, bedside tables and a dressing table, and because the room was large, there was planty of space to move about the second bedroom was also big and had two single beds and again a large wardrobe All of the bedding was carefully coordinated and clean, and also provided was a pile of fresh clean white towels in different sizes.
The lounge area had two obviously new sofas, a low table for magazines, and a large lcd television and dvd player Behind this area was the dining area with table and chairs, which led to the small galley kitchen. Again, everything was provided, including a fridge freezer, washing machine, all cutlery crockery tea towels and other such items. The one thing which was missing was a cork screw but the staff in the bar were happy to provide one, and the tin opener was one of those which makes you fear for your life!
Around the apartment was a large balcony with table and chairs, and the balcony could be accessed from both bedrooms and the lounge area. The air conditioning came as part of the package, which surprised me because often it has to be paid for as an extra; not only was this free but it was the most effective system I have ever used.
Outside there were two small pools, one beside the gardens close to the bar and one in the middle of the apartments- this one had a pool side bar. Both of the pools are small and although beds were provided I imagine that if the apartments were at maximum occupancy, then people may find themselves putting their towels on the beds at 5am. The only problem with the pools apart from the size (no Olympic style swimming here!) was the fact that because the area is quite built up, the sun actually doesn't get to the pool area after about 5.30. it's long enough but not if you want 12 hours of sunshine.
There is also a restaurant, which serves food all day, and at night the tables are taken into the gardens and meals can be eaten there. We did eat in the restaurant one night and the food was really good, and not overly priced.
Inside the garden is a table tennis table which can be used at no cost, and just outside the grounds is a basket ball court.
The apartments themselves are about 4km from the centre of Altinkum which suited us because that meant we could see the bright lights if we wanted to but if we wanted peace and quiet we certainly got it here. Buses run regularly into the centre, i think about every 10 minutes until 10pm, and taxis cost about £7.50, and are easy to hire.
There is an on site shop, and the apartments are also within walking distance of some local shops, so if you want to do your own cooking, then very limited provisions can be bought. A 10 minute walk takes you to the Temple of Apollo which is a site worth visiting.

**What we thought**

All in all, these apartments left us very pleasantly surprised. It was as though the apartment was owned by some private individual who was renting it out for the summer, but apparently not. Because they are very new, everything inside the apartment was clean and looked absolutely brand new.
The fact that we had a washing machine was a real bonus, and because we had two bedrooms we had lots and lots of storage
The only down side was the size of the pools- there were some children there but I think older children would find the small space a bit limiting.
I liked the fact that it was very quiet with no music blasting out of the speakers and no noise at night, and for anyone wanting a good value holiday in a clean quiet apartment with no night life, then this is recommended

Thanks for reading.
