Advantages: somewhere not many people think of going

Disadvantages: poverty stricken

We stayed for 2 weeks in Boca Chica in a hotel named Hotel Hamaca. We would definately go back.

We got married whilst we were there, in a beautiful garden and then had photos taken on the beach. This hotel has a man made beach which is cleaned every day. It is private and for hotel guests only, there are even security guards at the end of the beach to stop the locals using it. It has great pools, casino, restaurants, bars and shops. This is a fairly large hotel so there are a wide variety of rooms. We had 2 double beds, bathroom and balcony.

We travelled with Thomson and found the Reps very helpful. They gave us advice on not travelling out at night and the safest places to shop and which areas to avoid. It's a very poor country so don't be surprised if children approach you for money or even sweets. However despite the poverty there are some wonderful places to visit.

We went on a cruise to a secluded island and had a beach bbq, sunbathed and went snorkelling in the clear blue sea. You can take part in white water rafting or various coach trips. My favourite was the jeep safari, this is a day in the mountains learning about the locals and their culture and even witch doctors. It's great fun and educational.

The only advice I would give is to only eat in the hotel, don't buy food from street vendors and wash all fruit. Buy loads of bottle water, never drink from the taps. Spare a thought for the kids along the roadside, if you saw how they lived you'd be glad to give them some change or some food.

Moonstorm-unfortunately we couldn't get to know the locals if we tried my husband was taken seriously ill whilst we were there, so he spend most of his time on a drip.
We did venture out on trips during the last few days, on a safari trip which took you to all the villages even up in the mountains. I know about the culture anyway so I didn't feel i missed out, so no sigh here.
