This is one hotel I'll be revisiting, and in fact have already revisited.
The Golden Donaire Beach Hotel sits cosily in the corner of one of Spain's most beautiful bays. Pretty much on the beach, the hotel is number one for access to fun and relaxation, while being extremely affordable.
-- Hotel Features
- Indoor Bar
- Outdoor Bar and Terrace
- Swimming Pool and Jacuzzi
- Games Room
- Cheap Computer Access with Games & Internet available
- Small Hotel Shop
- 4 Lifts
- The Rooms
The rooms are simple but do the trick. Usually a single suite will fit a family of 4, with a double bed and two singles. Every room has a balcony overlooking somewhere. This is perhaps one of the biggest faults with the hotel. Many of the rooms overlook the terrace, pool or beach, which provides a cosy place to sit with a glass of vino at night and perhaps watch the evening entertainment. However, a large portion of the balconies also overlook a rather dull road, a couple of souvenir shops, and a few other unattractive sights compared to the stunning beach.
Every room comes with a an on-suite, complete with bath, shower and hairdryer. There is also a large wardrobe in each room - surprisingly plenty big enough to store a whole family's clothes. There is also - and pray you won't need to look at it - a map of all the fire exits and fire safety instructions in each room.
- The Service
Upon arriving at the hotel, it may be easy to get ticked off at the receptionists. Both times I have visited, they let the hotel down by providing a service that doesn't match the quality of the rest of the hotel. As a rule, the hotel staff are pleasant and friendly - particularly the waiters.
- The Food
Those on a full-board or all inclusive trip will get the luxury of the fantastic Hotel cuisine. The Hotel's lively and friendly atmosphere is really apparent at meal times. While often loud, the restaurant serves a buffet of food of a fantastic quality, with a range of different foods on offer daily. The most enjoyable part for me was trying some of the local fish. The food really is excellent, although if you are looking for a quiet meal at night somewhere, or are looking to try different places, it may be better to choose the half-board option.
- The Entertainment
The Entertainment often ranges in quality, depending on your taste. From Michael Jackson tributes to crazy acrobatic performances, the Hotel introduces an exciting act each night. There is also usually karaoke once or twice a week, which is fantastic as the family atmosphere of the place really gets people mixing together and enjoying themselves. There is always children's entertainment before-hand in the form of sing-alongs and sometimes games, which is followed by a couple of games of bingo for the whole family. The Entertainers are fantastic, in particular one - who has worked at the hotel for many years.
The Hotel provides a lively, friendly atmosphere, and being right on the beach means you're a step away from a beautiful tan. Quality for a cheap price, and an experience you and your children will never forget. If you want serenity and peace however, this may not be the hotel for you, as there is most definitely an emphasis on atmosphere and family inclusion.
I stayed at the Golden Donaire last year late August with my partner and my family. This hotel is set in a brilliant location as it is seconds away from the beach. The atmosphere within the hotel and also locations outside of the hotel is great, you couldnt ask for a more friendly approach.
The hotel has live entertainment everynight which i loved and they didnt have the same entertainment each night which made it a whole lot better. Some of the Entertainment includes:
> A live singer/dancer
> Golden Donaire king and queen competitions
> The fire/snake man
Basically what i mean by fire/snake man is a man who ate flames etc... and he also had a small snake for children to each line up and have a hold and then a much larger snake (large albino python) for the adults to hold. I personally thoroughy enjoyed each and every performance as they were all completely different experiences.
The Golden Donaire also holds morning entertainment (competitions) which include snooker, ping pong, many activities based in the swimming pool such as volleyball. The entertainers couldnt be nicer towards everyone, so polite and very friendly.
I found the hotels facilities fantastic, the rooms were always kept clean and didnt have any mould or tiles hanging off the walls which i have experiences in other hotels i have stayed in. They had computers with internet access for a small price so you can either contact family or like me check my facebook account!
The food was amazing, buffet style with many spanish and english meals so it was catered for everyones needs. The waiters/waitresses were so helpful and were always around if you needed anything. They also had a carvery on some days with beef and pork, yorkshire puddings, potatoes, vegetables and gravy, so this was excellent for my boyfriend as he is very picky with food so ate chips most of the time!
They have a jacuzzi, swimming pool, pool tables and much more so you would never get bored. In my opinion this hotel is well worth going to and you will almost certainly agree with everything i have said above.
They have a happy hour twice per day where you buy one drink whether it be soft/fizzy drinks or alcohol and you get one free this last for 1 hour so buy as many drink as you can and you will have plenty for throughout the day, keep them in the shade though as they will go warm very quickly! I would also advise people not to get ice in their drinks as they may be used with their water and you can fall ill e.g nausea and vomiting!
Overall I found the Golden Donaire Hotel was a fantastic experience and i would most certainly recommend to friends and family and would also book up to go again. This hotel is for all ages and there is something for everyone!
I stayed at the Golden Donaire Hotel in La Pineda last year with my partner , and enjoyed it so much we booked again for this year shortly after we got home!
This is a modern, clean and good value for money hotel with 8 floors and 400+ rooms, located in La Pineda on the Costa Dorada, which is much quieter than its busier neighbour, Salou.
Check in was fast and the staff poilte and welcoming. and we were given our key and leaflets explaining information about the hotel and services.
Our room contained a double bed and a single bed, built in wardrobe, dressing table & chair, TV, and a spacious bathroom with bath, overhead shower, toilet, sink and bidet.
Patio doors opened out onto a spacious balcony containing table and chairs ( the sea view is highly recommended).
The cleanliness of this hotel I cannot rate highly enough as it was spotless! The cleaners worked around the clock - still working hard at 11pm at night! The rooms were cleaned every day and nothing was too much trouble - we asked for extra pillows and the maid brought them right away.
The meals were fantastic, always a big selection and also an Italian Corner. Beware you will put on weight as the desserts were to die for!
We never had to queue for the restaurant, all you had to do was wait a little for the initial opening rush to die down, then you could go in and get a table right away. The night we arrived, our flight had been delayed and the restaurant was closing but the manager kindly let us in to have a meal . All the hotel staff were courteous and friendly we had no problems.
The best thing about the hotel is its location - right on the beach! Just walking out the door and right on to the beach was heaven! The beach is very long and plenty of space for everyone.
The Aquopolis water park is 5 mins walk from the hotel, a small supermarket right opposite the hotel and local shops and bars also a 5 min walk.
The hotel entertainment wasn't bad either, a different show every night or you could walk along to the local bars if you fancied a change.
All in all this was a wonderful hotel and holiday and I would recommend it to anyone. Can't wait to go back!
You can book this hotel via Thomsons.
LOCATION & BOOKING The Donaire Park Hotel, La Pineda, a new addition to the Golden Hotel Chain is situated on the beach on the outskirts of La Pineda, and about 6km from Salou centre. It is only available as a package deal through the Skytours arm of Thomsons or you can book direct with the hotel. The main advantage of this hotel is its close proximity to the water park. The hotel has 416 rooms consisting of a combination of 3 person en-suite bedrooms and family suites, and offers either half or full board cuisine from around the globe. Guests include British, German, Dutch and French, with the hotel receptionists speaking an impressive range of languages. RECEPTION On checking in, we were issued with room keys and meal cards identifying our room nos, what we were entitled to and what times. However, on arriving at our 'suite' we discovered we had in fact been allocated two separate rooms, which with two 12 year olds in tow was not exactly what I had in mind. Back in the UK, we had paid a supplement of £40pp for a suite. Initially on complaining to reception I was told 'tough' there was nothing they could do, however after standing my ground for around 45 mins, they eventually sorted the problem, I believe by moving someone else, not the sort of service you expect from a 3 star 'luxury' hotel. THE SUITES Two twin-bedded en-suite lockable rooms adjoined by a lockable corridor, and a balcony for each overlooking the road with a partial sea-view, doesn't sound very attractive but the rooms on the other side of the hotel overlooking the pool are directly above the bar and therefore there is a lot of spill-over noise from the late bar and entertainment. THE ROOM The room contains a vanity area, cupboard, security safe (rent 2,200pta + 1,000 deposit per week), TV (only 1 English channel - BBC World - watch the kids with the remote control in the evenings as some of the German channels a
re raunchy to say the least) 1 power-point (travel plug required), 1 Chair, NO FRIDGE AND NO KETTLE. Each balcony has one plastic table and 2 chairs. Air-conditioning was actually provided Free of Charge (I say actually because in past-experience we have always had to pay buy the day for the unit) THE BATHROOM ½ size bath with shower, toilet, bidet and sink. MAID-SERVICE Unlike many other places we have stayed in, maid-service is provided daily, although they can be rather early, 8.15am on one occasion. Linen is changed every 4th day, and towels upon request by leaving them on the bathroom floor when you require new ones. THE FOOD Food was served in an air-conditioned restaurant on a buffet eat as much as you can basis. Breakfast (8.45am - 10.00am) consisted of: * Bacon * Sausage * Fried, Boiled and Scrambled Egg * Ham and a variety of other cold meats * Cheese * Tomatoes * Baked Beans * Choice of cereals * Choice of fruit juices * Coffee, Hot Chocolate and Tea * Croissants * Pastries * Every type of bread and bread-roll imaginable * Yogurts * Mixed dried fruit and nuts * Jam, Honey, Marmalade Evening Meal (6.30pm - 9.15pm) A wide selection of hot and cold meals including salads, cold meats and veggie options - Drinks extra charge For an extra charge the hotel will also provide full-board Whilst the food was reasonable, in order to gain entrance to the restaurant, we found ourselves queueing irrespective of the time we arrived, and no entry was allowed without the pre-issued meal cards which had to be marked off by the Maitre D. If you left your plate for more than about 2 seconds, it was removed without asking irrespective of whether there was food on it or not. This aspect of the hotel spoilt what could have been a good holiday The hotel also had a reception area containing a vending machine with swee
ts and chocolates and also a cold bottled water machine – 225pta (90p) for a 1½ litre bottle. (these can be purchased for around 70pta in the mini-mart adjacent to the hotel, although sadly there is nowhere to keep it chilled) ENTERTAINMENT This was carried out by joint Spanish/English entertainers and consisted of nightly bingo, kiddies discos and flamenco dancers, not really our idea of fun and we spent the latter hald of the weeks evenings at the Champions Bar in Salou town centre, which consisted of a very entertaining DJ, a range of quizzes nightly (for which the winning team received a free round of drinks), and a lively and entertaining Karaoke with a selection of over 3000 songs to chose from. Highly recommended and brilliant. CHILDCARE Thomsons provide comprehensive child-entertainment facilities most days and some evenings for kids ranging from 3-12 years old (split 3-7 & 8-12) and offers a comprehensive range of activities which our two deemed themselves far too superior and babyish to even try, so much for ½ hours peace and quiet. TRANSPORT We personally hired a car for a few days, bu bus fare for 4 people into the center of Salou was 680 ptas (c£3), and a Taxi was 1,300 ptas (c£5.50), cheap at half the price. The hotel has no parking facilities of its own which did cause considerable problems SWIMMING POOL A small swimming pool was provided, although I gather small is typical of the area, where if every guest had decided they wanted to swim at the same time, could have caused some problems, although with the beach a stones throw away, there was at least some alternative, if you could get near it after 10am. SUMMARY An unattractive, looking hotel spread over 8 floors with 4 lifts (2 glass), which because of the number of guests you will spend an eternity waiting for, and causes particular problems for those in wheel-chairs, as we witnessed with fellow guests. The food was reaso
nable, but I found it difficult to handle the constant queuing and school canteen mentality. Personally I felt we have had far better deals for much less money in other areas of the Med.
