I must share with you all my wonderful experience at the Dusit Thani hotel in Bangkok, Thailand. We were on honeymoon during April 1984 and we decided to make an unscheduled stop at Bangkok. Originally our flight was from Singapore to Hong Kong but since the flight, Cathy Pacific, was making a stop in Bangkok, we decided to add it to our itinerary. I had heard of this hotel from my family and friends and we headed straight for it. On arrival at the Dusit Thani, we were extremely impressed with the main entrance hall and the lovely surroundings such as a waterfall and little boutiques. At the reception desk we were told that unfortunately there we no rooms available for that particular night but there would be one available the next day. We told the lovely lady behind the reception desk that we were on honeymoon and that it was our first time in Bangkok. She was so helpful and asked us to have a seat and she was going to see “what she could do”. Upon taking our seats a waiter promptly arrived with two big coconuts with lovely decorations of flowers and an umbrella. Compliments of the hotel (and we hadn’t even got a room yet). They contained a lovely non-alcoholic coconut flavored beverage that me and my wife both thoroughly enjoyed. After about ten minutes the lady at the reception informed us that she had managed to get us a room at the Sheraton Hotel for the night and that they would take care of the charges, for the Sheraton and put it on our bill at the Dusit Thani. Naturally they took my Credit Card imprint. We were then escorted to the Sheraton Hotel by another lovely lady, in the hotel limousine. Everything had been organized, by the time we got to the Sheraton and we were in our room in five minutes after arrival. The next day we were picked up by another lady and taken back to the Dusit Thani. We stayed a total of four days at the Dusit Than
i and every morning we received a box of chocolates and the same coconut drink. We were given a Junior Suite and billed for the normal double room. We were invited to the daily cocktail party at the hotel, compliments of the manager. The hotel has all the facilities one would expect from a 5 star hotel and has extra facilities such as the “Bubble Disco” which is the “in-place” in Bangkok. They even have a radio feed from the disco into all the rooms, so you can listen to all the latest music being played down in the disco. Once we were in our room and when we realized that they had started playing slow songs, we were off down to the disco. After all we were on honeymoon. My main reason for writing this opinion is mainly to emphasize the personal touch that is involved. There are many five star hotels worldwide and all of them maintain the required standards but some of them go over these standards and one of them is certainly the Dusit Thani, Bangkok.
