Advantages: Great Location and Price
Disadvantages: Maid Service Hit And Miss
If You Want To Be A Part Of It
====================
The Eastgate Tower Suite is located in Midtown Manhattan, it is approximately ¼ of a mile from the Chrysler Building and ¾ of a mile from the Empire State Building. The nearest subway is at Grand Central Station, opposite the Chrysler Building.
We were located on the 19th floor, there are two elevators that are very quick, so there is never long to wait. There are 25 floors in total. I'm sure to most New Yorkers this is not high but to me I felt like I was living in a skyscraper, I enjoyed the novelty.
The hotel staff are very courteous and friendly, especially the reception staff and bell hops. They will arrange tours for you if you ask, they called up for a visit to Niagara for us.
The room itself was spacious with copious amounts of storage space, including a walk in wardrobe. The bed was queen sized as booked and very comfortable, it could be a little soft for some people.
There is a fridge freezer and a cooker in the room (the cooker has gas hobs and an electric oven). There is also a small microwave and a filter coffee machine, although there is no milk only creamers so it's best to pop to the local convenience store for some milk etc. When we arrived there were some filter coffee packs, tea and sugar but for some reason these were not replenished.
The bathroom is quite small and very well lit, there is always plenty of hot water. The shower is good but is fixed to the wall so you cannot move it for cleaning those harder to reach places.
There is also a large TV in the room that picks up a lot of channels, most of them news channels. We didn't watch much TV but it's nice to have it to see what's happening in the American world.
We had a nice view from our window of Manhattan, we certainly felt a part of the metropolis, I understand that some rooms offer views of the Chrysler Building or the Empire State. I enjoyed watching life go by, mostly in yellow cabs.
There is no safe in the room but you can ask at reception for a safety deposit box, it's use is free, you keep a key and the hotel keeps the other key for your boxes two locks, you also need to sign when you want to get into your box, so it's pretty secure.
The only negative of our stay in the hotel was our maid, on the last two days she only left us one towel, she had also left some rubbish we had put in the bin on the floor and not replaced the bin bags.
The hotel also boasts a gym, however I cannot comment on this as we got out exercise walking the streets of New York, the scenery is also much nicer.
I can certainly recommend the Eastgate Tower for a stay in New York, it's not the Waldorf Astoria but it was more than enough for me.
Recommended.
P.S. If you're looking for a nice breakfast or lunch the Frontier Diner is on the end of the block, great value and friendly service.
